We have joined the minivan club!

The wife and I bought a 2006 Nissan Quest SE this weekend.
I gotta say, that thing is awesome! It rides great, has more acceleration than my wife's 325i that we traded in, and provides us with a great amount of roomyness for traveling.
We didn't realise that it came with the van, but we were flipping through the radio stations, and found that it has sirius radio as well. We don't know how long the service is paid for, but we will just ride it out and see.

So... look out if you are in the Huntsville area.. we now have a minivan... and we might inadvertantly run you over!!

That mini mini van pic reminds me of the one they showed in MCN a few years back.

The owner had fitted an R1 engine in it. Left it looking standard too. Imagine that thing coming past you at 140 mph!!

That mystery machine has a REALLY short wheelbase for a standard chevy van, looks like they took
a good 3-4 ft out of it. The whole sliding door was removed. The tranny has to be coupled directly to
the axle.

We did that to a microbus in high school, so we didn't have to bother with drive train, just had to shorten the controls, the main pain was the linkage for the transaxle.
Really cool, actually ran fast enough to keep up with traffic after all that weight was removed!

I just CANT drive a mini van

I am curious as to why you can't drive a mini van.
They get MUCH better mileage than an excursion or suburban. They are easier to move around in. The interior is more user (family) friendly, and they come with at least the same options.}

We have a Dodge Caravan and a Chevy Suburban. They both carry our family of 5 with ease, however, they each have their own strengths and weaknesses.

Don't laugh Glitch, I have that magnet on my van with my baby's name on it!

Enjoy your van, they have come a long way since first hitting the scene way back when.

I don't have a problem at all with minivans. I think they make great vehicles that fill the utility category well. Most people really don't need an SUV, they need a minivan or a small stationwagon. But what people need and what they want are two different things entirely. My step-mom thought she needed a Dodge Durango, but after living with one for only a year, she traded it in for a Dodge minivan. Its been an incredibly useful vehicle for the mother-aunt-grandmother-daughter role she fulfills (she rides her own 2006 GoldWing too!).

A lot of people seem to want SUV's for some reason. I can't understand it myself, I'd get a minivan over an SUV any day... unless I needed an SUV for something. I love my full size 2-wheel drive truck, though. It's the perfect vehicle because it's used for its intended purpose... a lot.

I am so over 4 wheeled vehicles anyway: sportscars, trucks, et al. They are all just utilitarian objects to me now, but there was a time I competed in SCCA autocross and raced at the dragstrip every weekend in a car. I would spent my entire paycheck on parts for my cars and once made a career change so I could devote all my efforts on them.

I wish I had all the money (and time) I wasted on cars... so I could have spent more of it on motorcycles.

I don't think anyone is hating on SUVs.

My question was just a curiosity why Mm128 could not drive a minivan.

SUVs serve their purposes well (well, most of them do). I had an explorer sport a while back, and I loved that thing.

Here is MY reason:

Mom bought one of the Mazda MPV Vans while i was in Middle School/high school.

I had to drive it for a few months while my Toyota Supra was in the shop..

I HATED it... kinda hard getting dates driving a MINIVAN in highschool.

It NEVER wore off of me... and just told myself that i would NEVER have on.

I have a Suburban for the towing ability, plus ALL of my LEO gear in the back.

And.. a Dodge R/T Charger for the weekend driving when NOT on the BUELL.

A car is a car, a bike is a bike, how you drive is more important than what you drive. And with that said I talked my wife out of getting a minivan because she would have become the family bus for her grandkids. Looking at Mini Coopers and Suburus now.

If a kid showed to pick her up in any kind van he be in trouble! I knew his intentions were no good!

Hmmmm I used to have a F100 van when I was a kid, you know, to carry my bikes and other sports equipment around town. My intentions were never bad. So I will have to rethink this whole thing.

Its funny.. Now having a 12 yr old daughter, I think the SAME WAY..

There is NO WAY in HELL anyone is taking her on a date PERIOD.... If a van shows up in the driveway.... well... we will find out what the DEPT's FLASH BANGS and Tasers work INSIDE a vehicle. : )

"... kinda hard getting dates driving a MINIVAN in highschool."

When I hear stuff like this... it makes me feel a little better about driving my father's hand-me-down AMC Hornet in high school.

Contrary to what this ad says... it was definitely not the 'Styling Coup of 1973' and no amount of cool on my part could change that. Not that the faux Levi's denim upholstery was helping matters any...

DJ,

It did SUCK... it was a LONG couple months..

Funny though.. how in highschoo/college your all concerned with NEW cars, trying to impress people....etc..

Now... I could give 2 craps for what people think and really ONLY care about getting MORE BUELLS.
