wow, jay it's about the poor guy not the run at this point. please keep in mind that your talking about a 21 year old guy who's doctor's weren't sure he would make it through the night. the run was cool yes but some of us were separated from the group for various reasons. some people were just trying to get the meeting point on time, not purposely leaving the run route.

No, Mike- it's about 3 motoryclists, including the innocent people who were in the oncoming lane who were struck by an out-of-control motorcycle, after it allegedly crossed into their lane.
I was informed that a man and a woman on a touring motorcycle were seriously injured due to this accident; they were airlifted to westchester medical center because an out of control sportbike rider went into their lane and their motorcycles collided.
At least one of them is listed in critical condition-
in other words, an innocent couple, enjoying the day on their touring bike, were struck, in their lane, by an out-of-control sportbike.

At least one of them may die.
so, it's about far more than one rider at this point.
and the accident did not occur on the run.
you may want to give me a call, I left my # on your work voicemail.

I have to say I'm a little put off by the tone this is taken derick is part of my crew and they only reason he left nh was to ride with us at hh3 he most definatly was on the run in fact was following a local across 7 lakes in order to catch back up to the group all legal bs aside if the fact that he became seperated from one of the two packs means he wasn't on the run then that means two things pack leaders were not keeping there groups together and there would only have been a very small number of particapents as there was actualy 4 or 5 groups do to seperation. More importantly then trying to place or shed blame or liability one of US is in very serious condition and needs all prayers and well wishes possable so enough please

It was not on the run.
We had become lost and Doon was the only one with a GPS.
We were trying to get to the end of the run to the restaurant.
It was Dereck that got that huge ticket in the morning too.

He was on the route, he was not on the route, doesn't matter.

I believe the original question was meant to discover if Derek was a part of the ride...he made the trip to NY for the purpose of riding the HH3. The answer to the original question is YES.

The question was posted in concern, not in looking for blame or responsibility. Every rider on the road is responsible for themselves they make the decision to ride, they assume the risks that come with riding on two wheels, and they should be metering that responsibility with their skill level...but lets not get into that discussion...their current health is far more important.

Now - can we stop with the bable about 'the ride' and start focusing on those that were injured...at fault or not does NOT matter at this point in time. We are supposed to be pulling for these people to exit the hospital in better shape than they went in...hopefully in the same condition they started in when they got up on Sunday morning. The insurance companies, police and the rest of the 'system' will take care of the 'blame' latter.

Can somebody please put up some information regarding the current status of all three riders that ended up in the hospital?

And also post up any assistance that may be needed - prayers and hopes are already on their way...

Just so everyone knows......... Derek wasn't the only one that ended up in the hospital yesterday. There was one person that ran into another participant that was ON the run.

Care to guess who?????

I'm really scared to ask but has anyone heard anything from the cruiser couple?
I can still hear her screaming when they picked her up.
It's really haunting me.

Actually, the man from the couple that were hit head on, in their own lane, was listed as 'critical', hence the two of them being airlifted out to westchester med center.
And, JPB- yep- at the beginning of the run, my toe scraped the bike of another participant, for which i feel lousy- neither of us came close to going down, and it's the first streetbike mishap I've had in over 30 years. I lost the tip of the bone on a toe on my right foot, and neither of us dropped our bikes...you happy, now?
I'm extremely concerned for ALL of the 4 motorcyclists who were directly involved in the collision.

assigning blame to the leaders of the two groups on this run is a horrible thing to do, livinlo-
especially while saying that it's no time to place blame, and while saying that this young fella was part of your crew. You're an excellent guy to talk and ride with, but placing any blame, whatsoever, on the fine riders who led the two groups of the run is unconscionable.
I do believe, however, that you, like the rest of us, are feeling horrible right now, and we'll all post things in a flurry of mixed emotions.
a nice kid from NH was trying to keep up with his fast buddies, he was ticketed for speeding, then, later, while following a different course, while far away from the rest of the run, he crossed the yellow lines and collided, head-on, with two other motorcycles.
These are simple facts.
I'm equally concerned for his recovery- and at least one of the other riders is in critical condition, that rider may very well die.
There are more than one motorcyclist to pray for, in this case.

Think about ALL of the involved riders.
I'm sure we're all pulling for all four of the motorcyclists involved in the horrible collision...Your buddy Derrick included.
I won't have anything to do with one of these runs ever again.

Well I hope that all the folks involved are going to be ok. I also hope the gentleman on the silver tuber is ok as well, he kept riding all afternoon but still he had to be smarting quite a bit so I hope all works out for everyone.
I do want to also say I have never had so much fun riding I was in a small group in between the 2 groups for most of the east loop so the pace was great and the guys I was following really knew how to ride and I was smiling or laughing to myself for most of the day.
Thanks for a great day I had to cut and run early but that was a great day.

You know, aside from whatever transpired in the collision out there in the park, while the run was taking a break and eating pizza over in Bellvale, it was a beautiful day, and it was wonderful to meet so many of you people.
again, let's all pull for ALL of these injured motorcyclists

Damn. I forgot about the guy on the silver M2.

He cut ahead of us in the "leaf-gazer squadron" and the next thing I knew, we caught up to him picking his bike up.
I don't even know what happened there.

I don't see myself joining another group ride like this again.
I've had bad experiences with every one I have ever joined.

I can agree from my point of view, but things can be addressed to help prevent Run associated mishaps. Certain items do need to be reviewed. Jay drop me an email dgomo@aol.com and I'll shot over my cell #

I am in no way blaming the group leaders for this I was only stating that as evidence of his involement in the run ... Here are th facts as I know them... Derick hit a empty(riderless) bike as the rider bailed and walked away uninjured. The couple on the cruiser hit the wreckage of the accident there injurys are only speculative at this point(we all of course pray for there well being) but I believe they are as I stated in previous post these facts came firsthand from people on scene..we all know the risks we take everytime you swing a leg over the seat..as have everyone of us come a little hard into a corner and drifted the line infurtunaltly the wost possible out come happened in this case...it could have been anyone of us...,again I am not placing blame on anyone
It was his choice to ride with us that day no one forced him....now we pray..
Tramp you provide a great experiance for all and I would hope you wouldn't stop just for a accident..the event almost trippled in size in one year next time we make the nessasary changes to accomadate a larger group and we continue to grow a run with great people for years to come

I had a great time, always have, but riding in a group is always a greater risk so I'm always cautious. Every time I ride I assume that I may not be coming back. Everyone of us should be aware of the risks either caused by our own abilities/inabilities or others and be willing to accept all possible outcomes without blame. That's life 24/7 no matter what the situation is.

Bottom line is that everyone is responsible for their own safety. One should never take on more than they can handle, but for many riders they have no idea at what point that is until it's too late. I would safely guess that over 90% of us think we ride better than we really do (including myself - that's why I try to keep myself in check as often as I can).
Our prayers go out to all the riders and their families.

I've never ridden in a group of riders larger than 10 in which there wasn't at least one accident. (Maybe I need to ride with better riders.)

I've seen three accidents in groups of 4 or less, me being one.

There is no magic number that makes a ride safe or risky. If a rider is on the road, the risk is present of an accident.

It's unfortunate that this happened. I hope that everyone is ok and heals quickly.

If it comes down to it, at least there were waivers signed. I've been in 5 people group rides, I've been in 20+ in one group, group rides. As a matter of fact, the 20= ride was last year and there were dear, and branches in the roads with not a scratch at all. Last year at the ATC Fall fling we had a guy on a Uly that went down in a parking lot, and then he went down on a slow corner and a lady friend went down on her Lightning, and there were only 6-7 on that one so it doesn't matter, sometimes bad things happen to great people.

Let me also say, I am sorry I asked if the injured were on the ride, Tramp did his best to answer my question and shouldn't be slammed for said answer.

hear - hear!!!

It has been delayed in light of the ride ending results...but THANKS to those that coordinated, planned, prepared, served food and did some leading and all other work that went into putting this ride together.

It was a great day - meeting new and old friends is the point and enjoying some miles on two wheels.

I hope to see EVERYBODY back again next year along with new friends that have heard about the ride and come along for the fun.

Thanks to everybody!!!

He was on the route, he was not on the route, doesn't matter.

}You can bet every last dollar you have that it matters to the insurance companies. They'll also be looking at any sponsors of the run.

I wasn't on the run,i just came out to ride with some friends.I have no idea who ran or sponsored this supposed run.

That said,i feel horrible for all those people who were AT the scene as well as those injured. The horror of an out of control cyclist careening toward you..We all know people who've ridden over their heads.I certainly have myself, but have been lucky enough to survive/avoid the worst.

I won't have anything to do with one of these runs ever again.

And THAT my friends ends a great gathering that would've continued growing.
But inevitably,this would've happened anyway.Now,if there's ever another HHR we'll
need additional IN-surance

Ducxl, The run never promised or implied coverage or safety, we all carry our own insurance. And the "sponsers" only bought advertizing space. They are also NOT responsible.
With your way of thinking, I'd have never offered anyone a place to stay in my home because I'd have to be concerned with being sued.
But your right, as long as there are lawyers and people wanting to place blame on everyone except themselves for their actions, then there will no longer be rides and eventually motorcycles will become outlaw.
That's not the world I live in or will be apart of or be associated with.
(I'd say something about beating a dead horse about now but the stable next door might sue me).
