Blake I sent PM, but I will attach this also. If you try to get into the topic list from the main home page: (http://www.badweatherbikers.com/discus/discus.cgi,
all that shows up is the cgi script (attached):

application/x-cgidiscus.cgi
discus.cgi (1.4 k)

http://www.badweatherbikers.com/discus/discus.cgi is an incorrect URL and not the one that you get if you click on the logo on the home page.

The correct URL and the one you get by clicking on the home page logo is...

http://www.badweatherbikers.com/cgibin/discus/discus.cgi

It seems to be working fine. : )

Blake, has the site been down again today? Twice I've had short stints where I'm not getting in.

I've updated the IP to http://216.254.92.92/ then today I used the latest URL you posted http://www.badweatherbikers.com/cgibin/discus/disc us.cgi yet I had those two failures.

??

Sometimes even Google and Amazon go down. Sometimes local ISP's go down.

Next time that happens, do me a favor and open a command line prompt and type the following:

tracert badweatherbikers.com >tracertbadwebyymmddhhmm.txt

where yymmddhhmm are the collection of two digit numbers signifying the year, month, day, hour, and minute, respectively in your local time. The part following the ">" is just designating the file name is all. Using the convention I noted will help me know the date and time absent any other information.

This will generate a small text file with internet communications data describing the situation between your computer and the BadWeB server. It can take a minute to finish, so be patient. You can type it without creating the file by leaving out the ">" and everything after it. Then the results will just display on your screen.

Be sure to take note of the directory displayed, something like

C:\Documents and Settings\Rocketman

That is where the text file will be generated. Find foward by email or attach to a post here the "tracertbadwebyymmddhhmm.txt" text file that you just created.

That will hopefully give us an idea of where any trouble may be occuring. Might be a good idea to also run a tracert when you have good access and speed conecting with BadWeB.

For instance, here's mine:

text/plainNovember 20, 2007 @ 10:45 am
tracertbadweb0711201045.txt (1.3 k)

and here's an old one from four months ago:

text/plain July 20, 2007 @ 6:34 pm
tracert070720-1834.txt (1.5 k)

Have cut n pasted instructions above into word doc, so if it happens again I'll give it a try.

Well Blake, I couldn't get on again tonight at 7pm and on. I tried your tracert thing, many times, with and without the file extension, and that wouldn't go anywhere either. So I've been out for a couple of hours, and now it's working fine.

According to my computer, I had no connectivity problems at the time I couldn't get on.

Ta Blake.

Sean (Rocketman),

Are you saying that you get no output even if you type tracert badweatherbikers.com into the command prompt screen?

You using a Windows PC or a Mac?

A Mac running OSX requires a different procedure; try this one, or this one.

Windows PC, and I see

Your search - tracertbadweatherbikers.com>tracertbadweb071122001 5.txt/ - did not match any documents.

Which I just tried now, or I get

Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage

Most likely causes:
You are not connected to the Internet.
The website is encountering problems.
There might be a typing error in the address.

I can use http:// or http://www. or just start tracert. None work. I've tried without the >filename and space or no space after typing 'tracert'

Scratches head............lol

Are you opening a "Command Prompt" window?

Sounds like you are typing into your web browser address field. Which wouldn't work.

Try going to your Windows "Help" feature and do a search for "Command Prompt". You should find instructions on how to pull up a command prompt window, which is what all PC's looked like before the advent of MS Windows.

Or you can use the Windows search utility to do a search for "cmd.exe", then click on it when you find it to open a command prompt window.

It'll be a text screen with a leading prompt of something like the following:

C:\Documents and Settings\Rocketman>_

Then then with the cursor as is sitting there blinking after the leading ">", just type in exactly the following:

tracert badweatherbikers.com

Those who have experienced intermittent trouble accessing BadWeB,

Did your trouble correspond with the flat spots in the blue plot below. Time indicated corresponds to Eastern Standard Time, same as on the board.

BadWeB Bandwidth Meter Plot

The blue is output, the green is input.

Thanks.

Brian,

Note the flat line running from about 13:45 (1:45 pm) thru 15:15 (3:13 pm). That corresponds to the trouble that Rocketman and Woody report.

Ok, sussed out the command prompt window, and typed everything in. NOTHING HAPPENS. I can't find the file where it's supposed to be once it's generated.

Computers get on my tits. I'm done. I'll live with it until it fixes itself.

Thanks.

The line preceding where you type the file name indicates the directory (folder) where the file ends up. You can name the file anything you like, but with out the ".txt" you may not be able to open it as easily.

It's not you that this will help. It is our server and comm line setup and so everyone will benefit.

hey rocket , when you get to your cmd prompt window it will probably say C:\Documents and Settings\Rocket/Sean or whatever you set up your puter with .

just look in C:\Documents and Settings\(whatever it said in the cmd prompt window Rocket/Sean whatever)

there'll be a .txt file there

The file generated should go to 'user'. There is no such file generated in 'user' that I can see.

Once I've typed "tracert badweatherbikers.com >tracertbadweb0711211915.txt" what should I be doing next? 'Enter'. Nothing, just wait?

I appreciate what this means, but trust me, I have a very short fuse when it comes to computer issues.

Rocket, you have to wait a bit as it goes through the trace route routine.
It may take up to a couple of minutes.
When it's done, it will return to the c:\ prompt.

We were having intermittent problems yesterday afternoon so we have been working to resolve that... The line has been taken down a couple times since then to do diagnostics... Today we replaced the router... We are also going to replace the "Smart Jack"... Waiting on Verizon for that... No problems since the router swap though...
