I served from 87-93. 2 years on the USS Juneau (LPD-10) out of San Diego 3 years on the USS Wichita (AOR-1) Out of Oakland/Alameda CA I started out as a "pit snipe" Main engineering Machinist Mate. Then between commands I went to Air conditioning and refrigeration school and went to Auxillary division (A-gang) I got out as an MM2 (E-5) | ||

There were four of us that got Pegasus tattoos at the 20th Anniversary. Me, Spiderman, Scooter from ATC and a fourth guy whose name I don't remember. The only pictures of them (including one of the four of us with Erik)that I've seen were taken by Dyna, who no longer frequents this site. I plan to have mine re-colored next year at the 25th, and I'll have 2008 written under the 2003 that's there. | ||

I served from 87-93. I was in during the same time. I was on the east coast though. Served with VP-45, with TAD orders several times a year to various HS squadrons. I was an Anti Submarine Warfare Operator (AW) and a rescue swimmer.} | ||

Thread hijack due to "sea stories" Hey Rayston, It's funny, on my "dream sheet" out of boot camp I had put: Any combatant (Frigate, destroyer, Cruiser, Battleship (yes, we still had those then...)) on the east coast. Naturally when my orders came through I got an amphibious ship (gator freighter, marine transport, slow moving target close to shore, etc..) out of San Diego. Better yet, several guys in my class at school who, as far as the navy was concerned, might as well have been the same person asked for anything on the west coast and got combatants on the east coast. As anyone who has been in the military knows, detailers (the ones who write the orders) SUCK. Back then were kind of the Navy's glory years. We had a 600 ship Navy (we're down to 250 or so now to cover the same commitments) | ||
