Anybody try one of these yet? I really like the Scorpion helmets - my last 2 have been EXO-400s. The EXO-1000 has a built in retractable tinted visor. Looking for first hand feedback. Thanks

Huge link huh?

They are finally shipping them?

Scorpion announced them, the 1000, it seems like light years ago-this past March/April. It just gives me an excuse to visit the local Ducati dealer who is the closest Scorpion dealer.

Hmmm, Christmas....

The new HJC has that feature too.

Yes, but the Scorpion fits my head as if my skull was used for the mold. I get all mushy when I think about it!

That HJC makes to much noise and Scorpion is superior in many ways.

That Scorpion is kinda hard to find they are backorder with many vendors. They are very popular.

Funny, I was thinking about this retractable sun shield as I was winding around in the Sierra Nevadas--going from shaded stretches to the setting sun straight in my face. I like the price range and the overall idea of the sunshield. I hope it is easy to get the sun shield up and down on the move.

I tried on an EXO-700 a while back and loved the way it fit and felt. I had been waiting to try one of the 1000s, seemed like a logical choice for my next helmet. I was impressed by the finish and the flip down inner shield is just awesome. The problem came when I tried it on...
It didn't fit. I tried on the next size up, XL, same thing, a pressure point on the center of my forehead. It seems to me that this helmet is made for a different head shape than the EXO-400 & 700 helmets.
Disappointment indeed. I was really hoping that this would be as comfortable as the other Scorpions I had tried. I would strongly suggest trying one on for yourself to see if it fits like it should.

Maybe my head has undergone some strange growth spurt in the last couple of weeks.
YMMV

I was just pointing it out, never said the HJC was superior or anything. You wanna know what is LOUD? It is my Shoei RF-1000. I need a new helmet because even with ear plugs, that thing is killing my ears (but at least it doesn't lift my nexk at speeds like the HJC did). Maybe I'll give Scorpion a try.

note to self--
drop hjc ac-12 carbon on concrete floor so i'll need a new helmet.

that's cool. swappin visors is easy on the hjc, but that's even better. does the anti-fog work as well as they say.

The anti-fog on my EXO-700 works great. The view through the shield get kinda wavy when it should be foggy. Not wavy to the point you get sick or anything, just if you focus on the shield, you notice it. Mine hasn't fogged yet. You need to be careful cleaning the shield as some stuff will strip the anti-fog off.

Can someone explain more about the visor. How does it work, etc? I can't find much info about the helmets on their website.

There's a slide on the rear vent that drops the inner shield down. Schuberth and Caberg have had something like this for a while.

Stole this from another site

Dear Sir:
Thank you for contacting HJC. We apologize for the late reply.

In response to your inquiry, the FS-10 is only DOT certified. We have decided on this because of the weight. The FS-10 sold in European market is only ECE certified. The DOT and ECE helmets are constructed differently.

I like the fact that it is DOT only as it is probably lighter and safer than a Snell helmet (ie Scorpion EXO-1000).

Anyone know where any reviews online are hiding for the FS-10?

I wonder if that big channel in the back of the HJC where the slider moves fore and aft (for sunvisor operation) creates a bunch of noise?

Lighter and Safer....

Your killing me. I understand what your saying. But we are headed for that same arguement of Snell vs. Dot, Expensive vs. Cheap, and Big name vs. No Name.

Lighter does not equal safer, nor does heavier mean safer. Lighter means less torque on your neck.....but then again it could also mean less padding or layers of carbon or fiber protecting your melon.

If your gonna bury your face in asphalt, curb, tree or assorted other road side solid objects......what do you want on your head. 100 buck chinese Dot helmet or Name brand Japanese helmet snell and dot tags.

With the recent chinese import issues are you sure that helmet is really DOT certified?

Just food for thought.

By the way....Wolf has smashed is head into the pavement a couple of times in scorpion helmets. He is the same character he was before the impacts. Speaks well of the helmet. Of course he does have an exceptionally thick head

This brings a valid point. DOT is a "self-cert" meaning you can say its DOT approved and we'll take your word for it. Then at some time down the road we may test it to verify your claims, or not.

At least you actually have to have Snell test the helmet to get the sticker.

the things that have me leaning HJC are..

1. my current hjc feels good on my mellon

2. i like the shape of the bottom of the sun screen on the HJC.

3. i like the larger breath shield on the HJC.

I did notice the price difference, but that's not an issue.

I didn't mean to imply that lighter = safer. The lack of a Snell endorsement is the reason I believe it is safer. I am convinced that the Snell standards and methods of testing do not create a better helmet. Snell helmets are very safe, but the Snell standards force manufacturers to make a more rigid helmet--which transfers more energy to the head versus a softer DOT helmet.

Now I didn't realize that DOT is a self-certification. That's interesting. I would hope that a name brand like HJC would not be cutting corners. But who knows.

I know HJC is a Korean company. I wonder if their lids are now made in China. Scorpions could be too.

I would think that if a "name brand" manufacturer was busted by DOT, it would be disastrous to the company. It is not worth the risk. Just like a bar serving to underage patrons or a casino cheating at its gaming.

Just following up - anybody here purchased one yet? I read a review somewhere else (not a journal or moto magazine or anything) and the person felt the optics in the visor were poor - with a wavy effect to the field of vision

thanks
