Buell did send me a tool kit to evaluate once and told me to keep it. Man, I feel so much better now. Please don't tell John Stossel or the guys at 60 Minutes. I guess now I'll never be able to run for public office. | ||

By the way, this could threaten to lead to a really interesting topic. See if you can make the segue to "if a company sends you something to evaluate, what are the ethical considerations involved?" This came up recently when another Buell discussion moderator explained to me that "the factory is sending us free stuff to test every month". Highest ethical guidelines in the Buellnalism are belong to Reg Kittrelle, possibly the straightest arrow scribe I've crossed pens with. Options: The writer either BUYS the product. The writer RETURNS the tested product. Anything else is another name for some variant of a bribe. In addition, if a writer has "free stuff" arrangements (I have 2) from a manufacturer, you recuse yourself or disclose that arrangement at the outset. "I am about to give you my unbiased objective opionion of xxxxx's new gonkulator, which the test revealed, sucks and hope that xxxxx doesn't stop sending the 3 free ones every year" Now...tell me about that toolkit!  | ||

How was the Tool Kit Blake??? Good for you - Evaluate the bits out of it. To those that let that kind of stuff bother them, I'd post it here but it really would be more appropriate over on SACBORG. Get over it!!!!! | ||

Court, The tool kit was lacking. The tools it contained were okay, but it did not include a shock adjustment tool or any means to remove/tighten the rear axle. To me, that is unacceptable. It was the less expensive of the two tool kits Buell offered at the time. The more expensive version having a nicer case and all Made in America" tools. I was able to perform routine maintenance using just the tool kit and a small adjustable wrench. I'm completely unethical, I'm keeping the sucker. Oh gosh, wait a minute... I also got some stickers, a pen, and a pint glass at an Open House/Tech Night at Brian's Harley-Davidson/Buell in Langhorne, PA. I gave most of the stickers away to a bunch of kids the other day. The old Cyclone is always the hit of the annual summer bike show put on for the kids of various localities. They get to sit on the Cyclone. Last year I left it secured in the back of the truck, deployed the ramp, and let them start it up and blip the throttle. I wish I had taken pictures. The looks on their faces when they felt the engine come to life were priceless. Each one got a lesson and before they could crank the bike. They then had to pass a quick quiz on basic motorcycle operation (brakes, clutch, shifting, starting and shutdown procedures...). I had fun with it and the kids (ages 4 to 12) were in awe. All the Harley show bikes were hands off but here is this guy with this cool race bike letting the kids climb all over it and actually start it? WOW! Anyway, they didn't get to start it this year since I rode it to the show and had no way to secure it against an accidental gear engagement, but they got Buell stickers. How's that for a segue?  | ||

My youngest loves starting my bike, revving it, hitting the horn, and "racing" with it (all while the clutch is engaged by Dad). Hell, he'll sit on it while it is on the centerstand and "race", wheelie and stoppie (with no key, of course). He has hanging off down to a science (for a soon to be 5 year old ;^D). Must come from bringing him to Loudon almost every year since he was born. | ||

My kids love to do the same thing. The look on their faces when they get to rev to motor is priceless. They sit on the seat and bend waaaaaay over the reach the bars and imagine themselves racing down the road. JT | ||

What was neat also was that all the kids could actually reach the rearset footpegs. | ||

The kids around here love the bikes too. I have had all my kids on bikes when they were as old as 3 years. Once they could grasp the idea of brakes they were put on bikes. | ||

I put my grandson in front of me on my Dyna & start it up. He is only 6 months old & he likes it. Actually tries to reach for the grips. Cant wait till he is old enough to take for a ride. |
