I am getting ready to REPLACE the forks on my X1...

How/Where can I jack this bike up so that I can remove the ENTIRE front end...

**KEEP in mind I am doing this in my garage WITHOUT the access of a bike lift.

Thanks,
Matt.

I put a steel rod through my rear axle and prop it up on jack stands, then put a floor jack under the front mount of the rear shock. The mount is bolted to the engine case. I attached a tab to the bolt that holds the shock to the bracket so that the jack contacts the tab, and not the shock, but you can get by without it.

Hang it from the rafters

I used frame stands under the rider pegs, to stabilize the whole thing. Re-bar through the rear axle and frame stands can do the same job.
Then built a frame over the bike using some 4X4s I had lying around, braced by the existing shelving in the garage. Removed the fuel tank, and lifted the front end w/ratchet straps around the upper frame rails. Not a 5 min job, but it was effective and stable.

+1 on the rafters.
Pop the gas tank out of the frame and pass a pair of straps through the frame.

I say a pair so that you can adjust for angle once it's off of the ground.

I use a come-along for the lifting and the straps for maneuvering.

Also, you can use the Maple Method.

Thanks guys,

Here is what i am getting ready for....

I am going to go ahead and do the 1250 kit... but at that same time I WILL send my frame to have it RE-POWDER coated...

Will ALSO be polishing a swingarm and EVERY little bits and pieces on the rest of the bike.....

I am trying to wait till the DEAD of WINTER... that way I will have another bike to ride....

This WILL NOT be a quick project as the bike WILL be repainted as well....

Should be fun... but I figure for about $4K I can do EVERYTHING and THEN SOME....

Matt.
