I was reading an article the other day, mentioned something about us a people losing our ability to tolerate others...technology has made it to where we don't have to stand in line and just deal with other people that we wouldn't normally come in contact with, or if we do have to stand in line, we just turn on our cell phone, dial up our computer, plug in the ipod, etc...It was a good article about how we as people have lost patience with other who don't see things as we do...guess if we keep it up we will no longer worried about being sheep in a pen, but be a sheep in our own pen...prisoners of our own intolerance I guess.
It does piss me off when I'm in a state park and can hear the harley's all over the place, but I live in Ohio, theren't aren't that many cool places to take my kids and see some neat stuff, just as there aren't that many places for folks to ride thier scoots with curves-so I guess we all have to coexist-that and I'll probalby just wait until winter to go back: )

Rode behind a guy in a group ride to Arlington National Cemetery. He had loud pipes -- really loud -- on his Sportster. I never noticed how loud they were until I got stuck behind him for two hours. My ears damn near bled everytime he downshifted. 10 seconds riding past me is no issue, but stuck in traffic with a guy like that hurts bad. Enough to make me shoot him if I wasn't so dang liberal that I leave my gun at home during the day.

when i was a kid part of the fun of going to a big state park or any kind of weekend exscursion was we got to see cool bikes...(with loud pipes) i loved seeing the harleys...dad was always bummed i turned out to be a rice rocket guy... so maybe instead of covering ur kids ears and running away like a bunch of pastied faced dicks why dont cha let ur kids enjoy their freedom by tolerating others and listen to the song a nice loud pipe lays out for all of us...if u dont like it...then why the hell do u ride...go find a cave to hide in and quit being a freakin whiner...jeez i never knew some motorcycle people were such wussies...where i come from u would get run outta town for bitchin that someones pipes were too loud...

Wow molly-you can be a real ass. if you want to give me a call and stop by its in the RAN. My point was just that-we ain't got much cool stuff to go play around on in Ohio, and most of is stuff which many types of people like. so called bikers-even if they feel high and mighty cause they own a cbr, white trash, uppity folks, and blue collars all hanging out in the same place, weren't too many people bitchin about it niether. I heard it, laughed it off and wasn't the worse for it, so what, but if you want to take it up with me that's good. Maybe you should learn to read a little better. Where do you come from by the way? Must have to be a badass to live where you're at huh. Sitting around a computer trashing everyone elses ideas and opinions. good on ya. Tell you what-I just noticed your in Washington state, I'll make it easy on ya, next time I'm working in Utah, we can meet up, that way a badass such as yourself won't have to travel too far...

I live about 3 miles from the interstate, and on quiet nights, I hear a lot more truck tire then motorcycle exhaust.

+1

I live on a main road and I can't sleep at night with the windows open that face the road... too much tire noise.

I have a Spec Ops pipe on my bike. My God damned refrigerator is louder than my bike. When my landlord fixes that, maybe I think about a new pipe.

I haven't gotten a single complain from anyone about my exhuast on any of my vehicles. The complaint I got was a note stuffed in the handlebars of my bike outside my apartment that said "Is it nexessary to take up

i bought my bike with a force street fighter pipe, and let me just tell ya anyone and everyone tells me my bike is loud-too loud. but i will say this i can watch peoples heads snap so fast into their rear view mirror that i would not trade that thing for anything. loud pipes save lives and thats the plain truth. when i drive my truck and dont hear or see the rice rockets until they are passing me going god knows how fast just makes me shake my head and say some dumb person not paying attention is gonna drift over and WAM! I went on a few harley benefit rides and had big bad a$$ hardcore harley guys shake there head and say man that is loud---but it sounds good! This country has one thing majorly wrong with it, and thats people getting offended by a motorcycle, t shirt, tv show, anything now a days. if you dont like it put ear muffs on or turn the radio off! now you may not like me or the noise as i come up behind, but this one thing is true YOU WILL HEAR ME and maybe thats all it takes to ride another day

"YOU WILL HEAR ME"

I can't hear anything coming up behind me at speed, loud pipes or not. Some of that may be due to the fact I lost a substantial amount of hearing racing motorcycles when I was younger.

If that ain't irony, I don't know what is.

For the record, I was not trying to stir things up with this thread... I enjoy the majority of you folks and have enjoyed reading your board for years. Please don't go apesh!t over this topic.
The topic at hand was simply that there is a majority out there that's going to take away your perceived right to run loud pipes.
Most of those who influence law will probably never own a motorcycle, so they don't really understand things to begin with. Unfortunately an f-off approach to those who don't like it might not end in a favorable result. In fact, the f-off attitude is probably going to prohibit my ability to get a "louder" exhaust at some point, and give the fuzz one more reason to pull me over.
There seems to be some common ground here; there is a time and place for loud pipes. Use some reasonable consideration for your neighbors and you will not catch the attention of the fore-mentioned "liberals".

...save the a$$-whoop'n for the flag burning commies, a$$holes, and the mariachi bands : )

Nothing is worse than a bad mariachi band. Oh wait, that's redundant! All mariachi bands are bad.

Molly-if you read the posts one after another you'll see where I was coming from-and yes I took it as insulting my fam, which, as I'm sure many on this board are the same, I'll stand up for until I can't stand anymore.
All my kids like bikes, they have been on my scoots since they were able, they even liked the sound of my tuber with the force on it. I took it off, because it felt like my head was mush after about 2hrs. of riding. Made me feel very much the same as I do when listening to mariachi music: )

Don't make eye contact, or show interest.

Dammit, man... I said don't make eye contact.

Not sure where some folks get the idea that loud is a "right." It ain't, not even at many race tracks.

I have a second amendment right. My right is spelled out in our Constitution.

Doesn't mean I can shoot anywhere, anytime, anything.

Rights are those things that are given to you by other people or organizations or governments.

You do NOT have the right to make engine noise without regard for others any more than I have the right to run my audio testing program at 190 dB.
