Just wondering how many others have given up a bike and regreted it. I sold my S2 to try and get a better house for me and my ex, ( was not ex at the time). 3-4 months after I sold my baby, basicly for her, She called it off. REALLY need to get another ride.

I did the same for my ex. I'll never go without owning a motorcycle ever again. When we broke up, it was the first thing I bought for myself.

Find a spouse that loves bikes as much as you - then the subject of "we'll have to sell the bike to get_______" (fill blank to fit circumstance) doesn't even come up.

Don't want anyone to get the wrong idea, this happened over a year ago, no bike yet, but family issues have that on hold for about 3 years. Just wondering if I am the only sucker, idiot, dumb ass who has done this.

I did. My brother smooth talked me out of my 92 softail. He had a business and needed the money. Made me a partner, got the money and "un partnerized" me two weeks later. You can pick your nose, you can pick yer butt and you can pick your friends. You can't pick your family. We have not spoken in 2 years.

My now ex-gf really could not understand what my bikes mean to me.

I pretty much gave up riding for the past four months. I went for a ride a few sats back. Got nothing but grief from her and her mother. They told me that it a selfish act.

Now back to riding when I want to

"A selfish act." Huh? What? If you were trying to ride another woman.....O.K. that may be selfish, but, your bike? Please! Best you punt her now....she's already involving other people. Heaven help you if you stay with her and you decide to buy a new scooter. Imagine what her Mommy will say then.......

Oh yeah, I still kick myself daily for selling the Firebolt. And the Sportster Roadster. And my SR500s, both of them which makes me twice an idiot. And the CB750 I had some of my best rides on. The Daytona 955 was supposed to see me through middle-age. I miss the XS1100 too. Wish I still had the old two-cylinder KZ 750! Miss riding the KZ 650 SR, and the relaxed comfort of the Super Glide. The DT250 was a lot of fun. If I still had the GS450S, I'd certainly assemble it this time! I'll regret selling the FZR 600 too, after I do it...

Selling a bike for a woman is pretty bad. But in reality...well...ok sucker, yeah. Idiot, dumb, YOU AIN"T EVEN CLOSE YET!!!
I'll grant you many here are way ahead of you in what we've given compared to what we got in return. I'm sure there are some women in the same boat too, though, to be politically fair and all.
I believe the key is to figure out who's worth giving things up for.
Wish I could tell you how to do that.
Patience man, you'll be back.

The problem is that she also has to meet other criteria that are *gasp* more important than motorcycling.

My girl can't be a fundamentalist Christian, a Republican, have a low IQ, etc....

So, if she doesn't ride bikes, well - that's okay as she never demands that I give up mine.

...been lucky enough to be married to a woman that, though she herself has no passion for motorcycling, understands that my motorcycles are not a hobby, they are a part of what makes me, me. All she asks is that I try to be safe (not quite ATGATT, but I'm close) and not spend more than I make...

Find a wife thats a great cook and is even better in the sack. Thats all that realy matters when it comes to a wife, all else in up for debate. Never give up a bike unless you are getting a better one, if at all posable keep as many bikes as your buget alows.

I made the decision to sell that '69 Camaro/w steel crank/forged 11:1/2.02 DartII/750dbl.pumped/4500 stalled/4:88 12 bolted to get us living together in a nice condo.I've never regretted it,she misses it.

Now though,we can keep more bikes in the space the Camaro took up.I loved driving it,but at least i had the opportunity.

And she offers to help me wrench, she's a great help with those fiddly Desmodromics

i told my gf, who is scared of bikes, that if she wants to spend more time with me she should take the safety course and i'll get her a bike. looks like she's starting to see it that way too, she's been asking questions and stuff about taking the course next spring. looks like i could be in the market for the worlds greatest starter bike next spring, the ninja 250.

Ever since I started riding my bikes have over lapped each other (not so with the women )

Have I sold bikes and regretted it later?
Yes, my H1, and my H2, come to mind.
I didn't regret it at the time, but now I do.
Didn't know what I had, just knew what I wanted at the time.
Didn't regret the bike that replaced them, but (now) I wish I could have figured out how to keep them also.
I wish I had every bike I've ever owned.

I have done other silly things for women, just not sold a bike because of one.

I hear it every day on the sales floor, over a third of my customers are divorced, recently separated, or freshly broken up, and getting a bike because their ex never let them, or sold the bike to please the ex. And its not happening to just guys. Divorced gals are snapping up bikes at a VERY impressive rate. More power to them.

It makes me sad when I see the things guys do for Love.
I've been blessed with a bachelor mentality thanks to my pure love of motorcycling, and watching my friends one by one lose their bikes for family priorities.
I may be an exception to the rule, thankfully, my GF has known me for over a decade, and knows how much I love my bikes.
Who else owns 42 motorcycles besides Jay Leno?
Granted, most are in storage, but I keep 5 parked outside my door ready to ride at a moments notice.

Doughnut, your in the midwest, if you EVER have a chance to come down to New Mexico, you are MORE than welcome to ride one of mine.

and Natex, if you want to unload that Rupp, i'm willing to take it off your hands, that is the only bike i let get away, my very first minibike. Which was a Rupp Roadster.

As for letting Love get in the way of your motorcycling, I guess it all boils down to your priorities. Some put family first and foremost, others, put their bikes at the top of the list. I'm one of those individuals that will always choose my bike.
Perhaps that is why I'm still single at 52 yrs of age.
I know that my GF knows how passionate I am about motorcycling, and is fine with that. I've made it clear that this is where my heart is, and she is fine with that. If she changes her mind in the future, she knows she'll be down the road.

Nuff said...

I am, at present, bikeless since my wreck, & the wife told me she'd like to see me stop riding, but she won't ASK me to do it because she knows it'd put me in a place of having to choose.

So I've promised to help get her on a trike next year. Sounds like a deal to me!

D-nut, I'm of a mind with Nondual

"if she doesn't ride bikes, well - that's okay as she never demands that I give up mine."

My wife, well, while we have our own problems, is really great about motorcycling. One of the girls at work once asked "Why do you let him ride a motorcycle?" She told me she explained to her that she wouldn't tell a person who LOVES to dance, or swim, or run, or sing... that they could not do it. Especially JUST because they might get hurt.

Find someone who understands your passions in life and supports them. Some people feel like you need to be willing to give something up for them. It's my opinion that is either a lack of good self esteem or perhaps a misunderstanding of life.

What are you willing to LIVE for?

Yeah, my wife doesn't love bikes like I do, but she knows how I feel about it and won't try and take that away. And she took the rider course this year, despite her fear of operating a bike. She's a rare breed.

Oh yeah, I've done some pretty stupid things for girls in the past, which is why i don't have to now! Sorry for your loss bro, you'll get back to riding - Be patient and save your lunch money.

-Mike
