Did he play, "In My Dreams"? He's kinda freaky, but, a damn fine guitarist. |

I honestly couldn't tell you. I am a fan of his playing but I couldn't tell you a single name of any of his songs. |

He was in the movie Crossroads. Staring the Karate Kid.lol All the guitaring that the Karate Kid played in the movie was actually Vai.LOL Steve Vai starred in the movie as the devil's guitarist in the "duel" at the end. I'd always heard Ry Cooder did all the slide guitar parts for the movie. Evidently a guitarist named Arlen Roth claims he did. Interesting reading here: http://www.fast-rewind.com/crossroads.htm |

Jim, Thanks for sharing the pic's! He played L. A. on 9/11 and I should have gone, but didn't. I did see him on his last solo tour and was blown away like every other time I've seen him perform. Question: How was the sound now that he's disbanded The Brood and has the two violinists on board now? |

The sound was amazing! The first 2 min or so, I was just standing in the pit in total amazement in what I was hearing, then I remembered that I better start taking pix's! |

And, dont forget his astonishing early work with Frank Zappa, who listed Steve as "Stunt Guitarist" on the liner credits, or with John Lydon (A.K.A. Johnny Rotten) on the P.I.L. release "Album" (or, "Disc", or "Cassette", depending on format). His playing on the entire album is startlingly vicious and raw, although executed with almost military dicipline and precision. My favorite Steve Vai song, "Ease", is on that record, and it is one of those songs I love having stuck in my head when out riding...... |

I remember when he first hit the guitar scene back in the 80s and he showed up in Guitar Player magazine. They used to put these little floppy 45 RPM "records" in the magazine. The "Attitude Song" was one of those inserts. Great guitarist. |

I saw Vai years ago playing with David Lee Roth. Great stuff. His mentor Joe Satriani was really impressive too. I saw him at a club in San Diego back in 88 or 89...mind blowing The whole g3 thing would be something I'd like to catch one of these years. |

Another one of those "Soundpages" that came in Guitar Player was "Blue Powder", and it was an ad for Carvin amps. What a freakin' awesome tune that one was, as well. I was just listening to "The Dangerous Kitchen", one of the tunes he did with Zappa, and it has to be one of the most hilarious songs of all time, with Steve tracking Frank's vocal line flawlessly; imagine George Benson, but from Venus........... |
