betcha thought this was some kinda personal add

I'm looking for some new leathers, 1 or 2 piece, but I'm having a hard time figuring out what size to get. I don't have the time or the patience to run around town trying on different suits to figure out what fits and what don't. It seems the best deals are on line, but I would like to slim down the chances of having to return it for something else.

so if anyone else is the same build as me could you please post the brand (rocket, motogp, gimoto, alpinestar, ect) the size of your suit (US and/or EU) 1 piece or 2 piece?

Thanks

I'm about the same only I'm 5'11", 220, 35" waist. I don't know if you've bought off the rack before, but I weight lift a fair bit and none of the off-the-rack brands fit me. I've got a custom Vanson suit on order, but it's going to be a few more months (if I'm lucky I guess). I would suggest you take the time to try on at least a few of the more common suits to get an idea if off-the-rack is even feasible. I'd look at Alpinestars since they have decent prices, good quality, and many different models.

5'9 210-220 LEAN. with 33" waste. We are not the norm and it's hard to find stuff that fits correctly. Looks for something that is either adjustable or aa high quality peice and find a good local taylor.

MUCH faster turn around than Vanson or a lot of other custom leather companies. Very nice people to deal with. They do awesome repairs as well. Shred had his Joe Rocket two piece put back together by them, after EMS cut it off of him after his accident. Top notch!
All the customs they do are excellent.
One and two piece suits, you choose everything having to do with fit and armor, so each suit's cost differs.
They even need to know if you ride sitting up (cruiser style) or crouched (sportbike style) or something in between.
Do you want a tight fit, not so tight, or loose?
These guys are great.
I personally recommend them.

I'm 5'10" x 230 lbs. I bought a AGV Sport 1 pc suit Euro size 64 and it fits me snug in the waist area. I've got 30 lbs on you so that size should fit you.... here is sizing chart form Alpinestars...

Thanks for the input so far everybody, I've got an old AGV 2 piece that is size 56 euro, and the pants seem a little big, and the jacket, well the jacket seems to have shrunk over the years. I'm kinda planning on getting a suit off of ebay, new enough, motostrana, or craigslist, since I'm seeing a number of not so used suits going under 400 bucks.

Glitch, where are some good shops to go to around the southeast side of Atlanta, that carry several different brands of suits?

Cycle Gear is the only place that comes to mind that carries any choice.
Not sure if there's one near y'all though.
There's a store list on their website.

try the pay it forward section in the ran there are links to many online dealers...www.motorcyclesuperstore is good about returns and if u call they will do their level best to make sure u get something that fits right....ive found the best way to go about it is to find a place like glitch said (cycle gear ) and try some on first leathers might say they are the same size but every company is a little different...and go i hate euro sizing...the spendy stuff seems to fit truer to size than the cheaper stuff..dainese, alpinestars and so on.

Molly - I read the thread on the WERA forum where he collected a lot of his info. The methodology he used was very flawed as he just asked people what they wore, not what they preferred or found to be the best. For instance, many riders wore AGV for ecomonic reasons even though they knew there were better suits out there. The racers have seen lots of crashes, so they had distinct preferences on what they would LIKE to wear but may actually own something different (got a good deal on a suit, etc...). Bottom line, I wouldn't place too much stock in the pretty graphs.

As I was doing leathers research I found that racers have a different set of priorities than street riders. They care about trackside support, repair-ability, comfort (which doesn't always go hand-in-hand with protection). On the racetrack most of the crashes are relatively benign since the chance of impacting anything hard and immobile is relatively slim. I would think armor would be more important to street riders, but that doesn't always seem to be the case. As the author of the web page mentions, style is probably the number one consideration for street riders. You're not likely to have a 200 ft slide like you could on a racetrack, so many street riders are willing to sacrifice abrasion resistance (e.g. textile jackets, jeans, etc...). Personally, I think the whole industry is overdue for some breakthroughs in protective gear.

If anyone of you guys are interested, I have a brand new Icon jacket that is sure to fit. 3X but fits like a 2. All Black Pursuit. It seems the size chart that Icon has is a bit skeptical of American sizes. PM me and I'll shoot pics.

Alright to just to put this post to rest.

I went to cycle gear as recommended by Glitch and was very impressed with the staff there.
The Frank Thomas line seems to be good reasonably priced stuff so I ended up buying a size 44 ti pro jacket last Saturday and tried on a number of different size matching pants. i found that the sizing on the pants are really inconsistent, ( tried on two pairs of 34 and one was extremely tight around the thighs and impossible around the waist, the other was a little tight around the waist and way too short between the knee and thigh.) They didn'y have a 36 at that location but did have a 38 which was way to big all the way around.

Today I went to a different location that had a couple of 36's and a 34, the 36's fit baggy around the waste and had extremely large calf areas making it hard to get the leg inside my boot. So then I figured what the heck, le'me try that 34, It is absolutely a perfect fit.

The quality of this line seems pretty good for the money. the only problem I've found thus far is that the leather requires alot of conditioning off the rack, (its too dry), so far I've used an entire 2 and 5/8 oz. can of mink oil on the jacket and it is still sucking it up. I anticipate the pants to be the same way.

The pants do not come with pucks, nor does cycle gear carry the frank thomas line of pucks, so I am still in need of pucks for them. Maybe Glitch, if you could chime in and give me the best brand and style that fit yours best.

Either way, thanks Glitch, for turning me on to a nice place to do business with.
