I believe the F-22 is faster as well. It'll cruise all day long at 2.5 Mach.

The F-22 is invisible on a radar screen. In an air to air battle, the SU-30 would not last long. The Eurofighter and SU-30 are trying to catch the F-15E. The US just trumped them with the F-22.

Amazing stuff. Although, I gotta admit I keep waiting for Godzilla to walk into the frame.

In a long range or high speed fight the Eurofighter, F15 and SU-30 would be pretty close. At close range and medium or slow speeds the F15 is outclassed.
We shouldn't feel bad as it only took about 30 years to do it.
And there's not many Eurofighters or SU-30s out there and may not be many for a long time.
The pilot makes the biggest difference and the Russians don't have the money to train like the west.
The F22 is supposedly both faster and slower than the SU-30. It is supposedly more and less maneuverable than the Su-30.
The F22s top speed is supposed to be slower than all the above as its skin is supposed to melt at above 1500 mph. A concession to stealth, and not a very big one. The F22 can cruise at Mach 1.5 for long periods because it doesn't need afterburners at this speed where all other fighters do. Supersonic speed for other fighters is measured in minutes. This is a far better quality than top speed. At slow speeds the SU-30 is supposed to out maneuver the F22. Another concession to stealth but not a big one as to fight slow is to die. The F22's systems support the pilot to much higher G loads so at medium and high speeds its all F22 over any other.
Then there is the stealth. Most will never see it coming. If they do they are going to find it exceptionally hard to get radar or infra red lock for weapons. More than worth the concessions.
We won't have many F22s as they are sooo expensive. For the same reason no one else is ever likely to match it. The F15 is likely to be around as the shaft of the spear for a long time. Everyone is going to unmaned aircraft now anyway.

The russians build sturdy simple aircraft.

watch the russian vid again that dirty air above the wings and tail and still controlable flight, that is an exceptional aircraft, especialy in the right hands.

I don't think the Raptor pilot wants to knife fight with the Su30 that looks to be a hand full.

cool vids..

the BIG thing about Russian Technology and weapons?....They are readily for sale. Its not that the Russians HAVE built a great plane, its who will they sell it to that I am concerned about.

If you had a list of countries the US has sold arms to (including air superiority fighters), you'd crap your pants. Two of the countries on the list are Iran and Iraq.

Yeah, but the F-14s we sold to Iran before they went to the dark side are still sitting in the desert.

Aircraft are ravenous consumers of spare parts. No spare parts, no aircraft.

Funny thing about air superiority fighters, if you don't have the latest, you don't have superiority.

Even if you have the latest planes, you can't have superiority with inferior pilots.

The US has fought a few conflicts where our pilots flying technically inferior airframes have battled with Soviet aircraft in the hands of various adversaries, and the skill of our pilots have always turned the advantage in our favor.

Did you guys see the Dog Fights show on The History Channel with the Israeli pilot?

That guy had some skills!

Besides the US, Israel has the best pilots in the world.

If you watch the two vids closely I think you'll see that the F22 is as controllable below stall speed and apparently more precise. A good quality when you've gone to guns. It looked to me that the SU-30 wasn't under really good control and the F22 was just plain razor sharp and doing exactly what the pilot wanted with regard to roll and pitch but even more importantly... in yaw.

I don't think the pilot of the F22 was really an aerobatics guy with that plane either. I looked around for a while to find a better one of the F22 and didn't.
