Hey Dave - where was she when we came down last weekend?!?! I think I would have stayed longer... possibly permanently!

Dave - Serious question. . .
I'm trying to find a bow for my wife. She does not want a compound bow, just a simple recurve. She has never done any archery and does not want to invest a ton in something she just wants to try. Also, she is only 5'-4". What do you recommend, and where do we find it? All the local shops here in the Tacoma area tell her "we can't get recurves any more" and try to sell her a compound.

That's kind of like Buell dealers saying they can't get tube frame parts, find a different dealer. Recurves are readily available. I know there are good archery shops out west there, but I've been away so long I can't tell you who they are these days. But I suspect Daves is doing to archery what he did with Buells and working with him "virtually" will be almost like working with a good local dealer.

So, before Daves jumps in here, I've got a PSE Talon take-down recurve. Not looking to sell it, just giving you an example. The poundage might be a little high for your wife, but if I remember right Washington hunting regs give a minimum bow poundage to be legal for hunting. Is she looking for a hunting bow or a target bow? Makes a little difference. There are some exceptionally nice recurve target bows around these days, real nice.

Just throwing some thoughts out there.

Tim,

I have a very short, lightweight (40# I think) Bear (Kodiak Magnum?)bow. I would be willing to ship it to you for her to try. If she does not like it, you can ship it back to me. If she likes it, we can agree on a price with the stipulation that it comes back to me (for the same price) when she is done with it. If this interests you, I will try to get a couple of photos to you. You can drop me a note at arbalest04062@gmail.com.

Purely target, even the thought of killing Bambie would make her cry.

Arbalest - Thank you for the offer, gonna keep looking for now. Think I want something I can keep around for good.

"we can't get recurves any more"

This guy seems to be able to get them:

I'm sure Daves can do better.

TT-I have a Martin Rebel. Its small, you can get it tuned for lower # draws and should last forever. I haven't shot it in a while, but it would do everything I wanted to do. I'm into fishing and I thought I would try bowfishing. They are very reasonable on price, look nice and for what I was doing were good shooters. I've nabbed a few carp, some gar, and even a goose with it.

This one looks like a nice Mathews recurve:

I couldn't find one with a model holding it though.

I never really understood the whole 'babes with guns' fascination some gun guys have... but this 'babes with bows' is a different thing altogether.

A fetish I never knew I had apparently.

Then you know why Bambi must DIE!
