Crashed my XB back on 7/13/07. The dealer got the bike about 7/20-7/21. I just got a call that the rear axle is on National Back Order until September 21. Doesnt that seem a little long of a wait? Its only a round piece of steel, I could have one made in less than a week (I know, I know, product liability) Is there a way to check on this? Or should I post in Courts Forum to see if he could help?

Try Court, yes. Maybe someone here could come up with one.

The dealer should know that in the event a part is backordered at the Distribution Center they can use the Factory Direct Ship Order Program. This program has been in place for years and provides the dealer network with the ability to have current model backordered parts critical to the operation of the motorcycle directly shipped from our manufacturing facilities to the dealer. This part certainly qualifies for this program. The dealer needs to call SPOC to have this part shipped.

It will likely ship within 24 hours of the order being placed.

Talk nice to the dealer.

Thanks for all the quick replies. Im a little leery of buying things like axles, engines, etc off of ebay but thanks for letting me know its out there. I did post in Courts Forum and realize he has alot more pressing things to do so if I dont hear anything from him telling me otherwise, I will contact the dealer and ask them nicely to do contact the Factory Direct Ship Order Program.

Thanks again for everyones help.

Just because a part is on national back order, ( or obsolete), and your dealer doesn't have it, does NOT mean that it is totally unavailable.

It just means that your dealer is the typical Harley dealer who doesn't feel the slightest urgency to get a customer back on the road. Most common thing in the world.

If you call a Buell friendly dealer out of our sponsor list, they can check the parts stock of all participating HD dealers and find the part, on the Harley Net.

For example, Dennis at Stone Mountain, found an old style kickstand bolt for me at a New Jersey dealer, who shipped it to me and I got it the very next day. Hard to use a bike without a kickstand. Now I keep a spare bolt in stock.

Since many Harley riders don't ride very much, they don't seem to mind interminable waits for parts, and the dealers are rarely in a hurry to get them.

Thus supporting our sponsors not only supports Bad Web, it may very well get you on the road sooner.

Gentlemen_Jon. I will gladly take your .02. My first and only Harley was bought years ago from one of the sponsors here, Hals. I dont know why I didnt go back there for a Buell other than the dealer I did buy from is closer. I realize closer may or may not be better. The people at the dealership have actually treated me quite well, but maybe not serviced me as well as another might. I will be looking for new tires and, even prior to this little deal, was going to check out Hals.I also contacted Steve Mckay about where to buy sliders, and he told me to buy from one of our sponsors. As with buying my riding pants, I put that off, but I guarantee you that before the day is over, I will have sliders ordered from one of them.

Actually I was nothing but a messenger in this deal.

The key words here . . . as folks continue to help their dealers learn how to be GRET Buell dealers are . . .

quote:

in the event a part is backordered at the Distribution Center they can use the Factory Direct Ship Order Program. I'd print those out and in a light moment ask my parts guy . . "how cool is this? . . were you aware of that?"

If he wasn't, he now is with the chance to save face if he wasn't.

Court, when I brought the "Factory Direct Ship Order Program" up to the service guy, I asked if he could look into it for me. He was very pleasant and said he was aware of the program but it was his understanding that it was only for warranty work, but he would look into it.

I called him back when I got home and told him that the part would be ready for shipment from the distribution center on Friday and to have someone take care of it.
He asked me "how'd you do that?" I just told him someone was able to get it taken care of,and please make sure to follow up on it
