I have the Garmin 378, but am looking for one for the bike. I'd like to stay with Garmin because I get a great discount, but if there's something else better, I'd go that route.

Lett'r rip. What's good and/or bad about te GPS you're using for your Buell?

Zumo 550...love it...Bluetooth for my phone...XM radio for tunes...included car mount ...only thing that is annoying is no Bluetooth for stereo XM but from what I've read that really isn't available because of the power required to produce high level sound from remote headphones.

Does the 550 have XM weather capabilities?
(I'm stuck at work this morning with limited web capabilites, Garmin's web page is too graphics loaded for this computer)

not exactly Gps while driving, but the new Nv Lg Cellphone is my new nav toy. Will do gps locate, mapping, cell phone, texting, internet, camera, mp3, weather and internet. It replaces a couple of reduntant devises for me, though the Zumo is still on my list if somebody is feeling generous ;)

Actually with the Tourtech mounting system, the Zumo could replace your stock dash info system, there is even, a gas type gauge! I know when I am in neutral, and when my turn signals are on, and if the highbeams are on, so if the Zumo will do speed, rpm, and a flip to nave, it might be replacing my dash unit this winter.

The Zumo will do RPM?????

But... How does it know?

If it were to replace your dash, you'd want to find a good way to lock it in there.

Gotchya.

I'm told it takes SD cards and reads MP3's. This means I could fill up a 1 or 2 gig SD card with songs, throw it in there, and listen to them while riding correct? Does it have a standard headphone out?

More difficult question:
Lets say I take a 4 day ride. Shutting the thing off everynight.
After the trip, can I download my route onto a computer? Will it show all 4 days, or just the last one? Will it show where I stopped?

I've seen a small LED tach/shift light before.

It was a row of 10 LED's a few green, a few yellow, and then a few red. You could set up at what RPM's it hits what colors, and then set up the MAX RPM.

It would progress up until you hit your max, and then all the LEDs would flash like a shift light.

I thought it was a great idea, as you could put it over your speedo bezel and not have a large guage to worry about, but you could know about what RPM you were at, and then you also had a shift light.

I can't seem to find it anymore.

Yes, it takes SD cards and plays mp3s. Yes, it has a standard headphone output in addition to the smaller mic/speaker combo plug for a hands free set. It stores all your ride data until you erase it. You can download the trip to your PC and see everywhere you went, how long you spent there, and how fast you were going. The reverse is also true. You can plan a route on your PC and transfer the waypoints to the Zumo.

That's awesome.

Only thing it's missing is the live weather radar!

Sounds like it's the Zumo 550 FTW!

The XM radio opton let my laziness take over. I rarely use my mp3. Some people have used 8gig cards.

I am still very pleased with my Quest I.

It's old school, but very effective, and they are getting cheap on eBay.

I've got the Zumo 450 and you can buy additional equipment for the traffic and weather.

LOVE this thing! I thought about replacing the dash, but decided to do the mount thing. FYI, if you don't like the crappy clamp mount ball, RAM mounts sells a post style that threads into your Mirror socket. (Assuming you're like me and have Bar end mirrors) for 10 bucks. I have'nt completed wiring it yet, but will be using a 12VDC charger style connection to a plug on the top front of the air box cover. Just need to find the right type of 12V plug and a weather resistant socket...

Zumo is X-Pen-sive, but woth ever dime so far. Just wait until it tells you you are on reserve fuel. Yeah, the light on the dash does too, but can you touch the light and have it tell you every gas station you can reach before running empty?

Rich,

I heard complaints from nuvi owners that if you have a large SD card and a lot of mp3 files on it, it really slows down the startup time when you turn the nuvis on. It is because the nuvi builds a "catalog" of the mp3 files so you can choose from it and it does not save it when turned off.

Is the zumo the same way? Slower startup when there are a lot of mp3 files on it?

Also, have you ever looked at the track log files that are saved to memory? I think they would be *.gpx files but the manuals are pretty vague about them.

If you have some *.gpx files on the /garmin drive, and want to let me look at one, I'd be interested in it. You can do that, attach it to an email and send it to jacker@midmaine.com. Thanks.

I still "studying" the zumos, don't have one. Yet.

Jack

WHOA! I just looked up XM weather radar, and it says it's $99.99 a month!
Is that correct?

And YES! The Zumo's have weather feature. When I saw XM weather, I just thought it was weather radio, I didn't realize that XM weather had radar maps.

I don't believe the Zumo can display the XM weather radar, only the simple forecast.

I'm told the weather they advertise is $99.99, but if you call, you can get a basic live weather map for only $10 a month.

I have live satellite weather maps on my smartphone running GarminXT. Other cool features are realtime fuel prices, local hotel prices, and active traffic mapping.

This has come up before, but for those that are new, GarminXT is the same software that the Nuvi's use, just on a different platform with a bunch more features.

If you do not have a windows mobile device. Pick up a cheap Windows mobile PDA from ebay, load up the software and you will have an amazing device, all on the cheap.
