I have a chance to pick up an apparently very clean 2000 S3T for under $4K. Those who know me are aware that I have a 98 S1W and a 97 M2 so I'm not totally devoid of the Buell experience. Seems to be a good time to round out most variants of the tubers to my collection. I know the general things to look for such as recalls, rocker box leaks yadadada. Any specific things unique to the S3T??? Didn't have time to search the archives... Thanks guys (and CJM/Whatever) |

The lower faring on the right side tends to crack from vibrations. A good replacement is velcro for the lower mount. |

A better replacement is to use the latest lower mount and make sure everything is aligned carefully with no stress to any part of the fairing lower. I cracked my first one at <1000miles but haven't broken another (46k mi) You might also look inside the bags to see if they are cracked along the mounting points. Josh |

I dont think so, pretty sure the 2000 S3's were FI. |

Dueller: You might find some items of interest here or here The second link is actually for S2 models, but it has some updated information that may apply to S3s as well. Also, check out Jose's contributions at:S3 Files. Hope this helps, Don |

Yup, 99 up S3s are injected. Get the Race Ecm, throw a K&N in the Airbox (with the usual airbox mods) and a free-flowing muffler and tour the world.

dyna, josh, spidy and don ...thanks...just what I needed. Got the emails Don...perfect! My only hesitation is the FI system but for this price I can't see much of a downside. jim |

I'd call the 2000 and 2001 FI reliable. I'd characterize the '99 FI as tempermental though curable with the racing module that comes with the race kit that ya should have on it anyways. For under $4k...it sounds damned sweet. DAve |

The "G" update made the 99s quite nice. 'course the Race ECM is a requirement if you're modifying it any. Josh 99 S3T |

My turn, You'll love the bike. Mines been mechanically sound for over 40,000 miles. The only problem I have with YOUR selection would be the FI (personal preference thing). Not that your stupid and I realize you didn’t ask but here’s what I’d look for. Look at the front axle ends for scratches to see if the bike has been down. Most don’t replace the axle if they drop it or lay it down. Where the mirrors connect to the front fairing, look for scratches to see if its’ been down. The mirrors fold back and to take most of the load but the fairing will suffer some pretty deep scratches. The fairing can easily be touched up but if you're looking for it, they can't hide it. Belt guard is prone to cracking do to vibration. No big deal, just something to be aware of that may need replacing. See if the hard bags have the updated locks (if you get them with the sale). Seat latch is sometimes screwed up and needs adjusting. No big deal but some get pretty frustrated because the simply don’t know how to fix it. -JW:>

99 and newer S3s have the good latches from the factory. DAve |
