Hey guys,
I'm new to the forum. I've been looking around for my first street bike and I am considering the buell blast. My dad just sold his kawasaki zrx1200, so he is now considering the streetfighter 1200. How is the blast as far a reliability, a lot of my buddys are telling me that buells are very unreliable. Would you guys consider it a chick bike, I did a quick image search on google and most of the pictures showed women on them. I was also considering the ninja 250, if you had to choose between the two, which one would it be.

thanks

If you'll go look around in the Thumper section, you'll just be amazed and astounded. But...don't mention the chick bike thing.(kidding, those folks put up with almost anything, sometimes even each other) The Blast is multi-sexual. Don't know if that's the proper term, but it sounded better than "bi" I thoroughly enjoy riding our Blast, by the way.

Of course, you'll may get more unbiased opinions here.

Chicks always look better on bikes though - I guess those other bikes with women on them are chick bikes also - gixers, busas and such - damn thats a fast crowd - lol

>>>How is the blast as far a reliability

It is EXCELLENT and has logged some of the best reliability numbers of any motorcycle.

I'm looking for one as well, the Blast is a PERFECT NYC commuter bike.

One day I'll own a Blast.
It's on my short list.
I've only had to repair one Blast to date.
It was run without oil on a hot day(s).
Still ran though, but started burning oil, had scarred up the cylinder walls, and piston.
Still ran pretty well considering.

My 1st experience with the Blast was on the MSF course at Cartersville H-D. Fun little bikes, which is quite a statement coming off of a 12Ss. The only complaints I had were:

1.) Footpegs are too wide... scraped easily even during the basic course maneuvers!

2.) Foot brake has such light resistance that I couldn't even tell I was pressing on it.

Overall, I'd love to have one to mod out!

Sorry I would have posted this in the thumper section but, I wasnt aware the the blast was a "thumper"

Blast are great starter bikes for those who have never ridden on the street. I purchased one in 2000, the first year they were introduced, to learn how to ride on pavement. I logged 7,000+ miles on it that year. then traded it in on my 2001 Cyclone (1203cc). It was a smooth transition! I wish I could have managed to keep it, I miss that little thumper...

I wouldnt get anything less than a 500cc bike. The Blast is technically a 492cc, same thing. The Ninja 250 you will grow out of in a hot minute. You will regret it if you get one. I had a Blast and LOVED it! Put 13,500 miles on it and never had a problem! (I know thats nothing compared to other Blast riders) I had the race kit on it and put some cool racing stripes on it. It was pretty cool. Got lots of compliments.

I bought a 2001 Blast for my wife and son to learn on. It has about 8000 miles on it and has never needed any maintenance repairs. Very dependable bike.

My son dumped it in our field and wiped out a mirror and turn signal. $45, straighten the bars and windshield brackets, a couple of scratches it is running fine. It has a V&H muffler and a K&N filter and I really have fun on that bike in the twisties!

Would you guys consider it a chick bike, I did a quick image search on google and most of the pictures showed women on them.

It fits shorter people quite well, which makes it a perfect bike for many women. It also isn't particularly fast, which doesn't matter to women nearly as much as it does to men. So it's certaily a bike thats popular with the chicks. I ride one and I'm not a chick.

Will run forever........although my 5'3" 110 lb. girlfriend has one it is certainly not a chick bike. The thing will hall a$$ and is one of the most fun bikes I have ever ridden. It's the bike that made me buy my XB9s, her Blast sports the Vance and Hines exhaust, K&N filter and a rejet . It's a ground pounding thumper that sounds like Ricky Carmicheals 450 pro motocross bike.

Get one, they are cheap, reliable and a ton of fun.......promise 1
