I was there... WERE YOU?

I saw about 30 Buells riding around the area through the week, which was about twice as many as I was guessing I'd find.

I saw more Cyclones than any others! I figured I'd see more Uly's than I did (just saw 3, two orange's and one blue!)

Rapid City Harley and Buell was a joke for Buell. This was the HUGE and MAIN dealership for the Rally. Hundreds of thousands of people went through this dealership over the course of last week. There was a massive tent there which said HARLEY & BUELL 2008 MODELS. I went in, and found about 100 Harleys, and 3 Buells stuck in the very corner. Best part was, they were all three 2007 models. They had no Buell merchandise at all.

Then on our way to Yellow Stone, we stopped at Deluxe Harley and Buell in Gillette. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!! 9 Buells on the floor and 2 full racks of Buell stuff! Mens and womens T shirts, long sleeve T shirts, Sweatshirts, LOTS of Buell leather jackets and other jackets, keychains, gloves, and other stuff!

Over the course of the week I was there, I spent one day in Sturgis, which was too much for me. I was under the impression that there was going to be vendors set up, with parts and interesting stuff. Maybe I was in the wrong area... but to my surprise, it was 95% T-shirt Vendors, and Custom Chopper 'makers'. There really wasn't much of anything that interested me.
So off and running... For the rest of the week I was riding. A bit over 2000 miles to be exact! Pictures will come later.

Had a great time. I'd love to get back out in that area... but I think I'm done with "Bike Week".

I was on my Yellow Cyclone. Anybody on here see me? I was the one pointing and waving my arms in the air like a crazy person whenever I saw another Buell.

Buying t-shirts on Main Street. I do a bombing run nearly every year for t-shirts. Leave Denver in the morning, have lunch in Sturgis, and dinner back in Denver. About 800 miles round trip. Takes 12-14 hours. The ride on 85 in the Black Hills is REALLY why I go.

So there were Buell's in the area...I didn't see one on my trip. I was close (Devil's Tower), and I have decided the Sturgis scene is not for me. Too loud, too much booze, etc...

The one thing that stood out was the local news reports. I was close enough to get the local Rapid City tv news. They were reporting from Sturgis, and they had a running count of DWI's, and accidents.
During the short time I watched, they mention there had been 170+ DWI arrests, how nice.

I was there with my Harley, saw TONS of Buells running around as well as parked on the main drag through town. At times I wish I had brought my Buell, but then I would get stuck behind a Gold Wing and it didn't matter any more.

You must have been. Most of the "Parts Vendors" are along Lazell, which is the main road through town. All the t-shirt vendors are along Main Street. J&P Cycles has a HUGE store over on Lazell, sounds like you were 2 blocks south. I got a new LED kit for the Harley from one vendor, my buddy got a new fairing for his, we got new footpegs for my wifes bike, all kinds of goodies over there. Main Street is for the beer drinkin', Lazell is for the goodies!

I'll be remembering things about this trip for the next month probably. Here goes part one:

The day before we left, I rebuilt my rear brake caliper. It had been hanging up, and I wanted to fix it before the trip. Well upon bleeding it, I killed the master cyclinder. I had Al at AmericanSportBike overnight the rebuild kit to my campground, and after a couple days of riding the great mountain roads with no rear brake, I was able to sit down at my picnick table and rebuild the thing. As with most projects on this bike, there really was nothing to it. (I love how simple these things are). Took all of half an hour including bleeding it (with some new techniques I learned on here).
Another To AmericanSportBike!

This trip was the first time I used my Ventura Rack also! (Installed it the day before I left) ::cough cough:: Thanks again Al! ::cough cough::
This thing is GREAT! I love it! It's going to make trips so much easier! Highly recommended! I was able to carry a large tail pack with rain gear and cold weather gear (it drops a good 30 degrees when the sun goes down out there) on the back seat, and a small cooler on the back rack with just 3 bungee's, and it was solid as a rock for the whole trip. Then throw the grab handle on, and it's hardly noticable.

We also rode the Bear Tooth Pass in Montana. That was an Amazing ride. Over 11k feet above sea level, and the bike still ran perfect! It was VERY down on power, but it still idled and ran perfect!

We were there. Usual stuff in Sturgis, camped in Rapid City and toured the area. Got a good look at the new 1125R at the Harley show. Lots of good times. My son made a new friend at the Harley shop. My son is the one without the hat.

4000 miles round trip, hot as hades coming home!

Darn, we rode right past the Gillette shop. I figured it'd be like most the others, all Harleys a couple of Buells.

Did just get the new American Motorcyclist today. Nice ads for the 1125r.

We took over 1500 pictures to remember the trip. Less than 10 in Sturgis itself, and less than 10 of motorcycles. This trip was all about the rides, and the scenery.

Our tiny cabin. It was perfect! All it had inside was a couple bunk beds. The campground was very quiet and peaceful.

Devils Tower, I'm on the left (Ummm, I left all my gear on the bike, I swear )

And STURGIS! I couldn't believe it! One of VERY FEW tubers that were there happens to be in the background of this picture!
