I have the opportunity to buy an '08 XB12S at employee cost. The price they've given me seems high t $11,331 OTD. I live in CA if that matters. Can anyone clue me in on how the pricing is structured? The dealer won't really tell me anything other than "Wow, your getting a great deal". If someone works at a dealership, please help me out. I want to pull the trigger, but need to understand this.

well employee price is whatever they want to make it.
I would find a different dealer, one that doesn't pull the old "wow, you're getting a great deal"
Did they used to sell cars?

That is over MSRP with freight. If that is employee pricing, they are really screwing everyone else.

Factory employee or dealership employee?

Factory employee...
Well from what I hear employee pricing works like this.

*You haggle your best deal

*Then you submit the paper work to Buell/HD and get the refund IE to bring it to employee price.

Dealer employee.

Purely at the dealers discretion.

Employee pricing info needed

Employees cost a lot of money. By the time you figure in Social Security, Unemployment taxes, Worker's Comp payments, and then wages, on top of it all, they can go through money like grass through a goose. Of course, you could hire illegal immigrants, and save a few bucks, but if INS catches you, you'll be giving even more money to your lawyers than you saved.
Wait a minute; you mean the price an employee pays for a bike? That's different. Forget what I said.

P.S. The dealer is blowing smoke up your butt. I'd find a different one.

$10,495 is the official price from the Buell site. Add to that all the normal fees and setup costs, that $11,331 is just silly IF they're saying that is "Employee Pricing."

Maybe it that's the price he gives his employees, what he's REALLY telling you is that they NEVER give their employees a break.

I paid $9,995 + TTL for my XB12Scg back in 05 in Houston. I don't work for HD and at the time didn't know a soul who did either. It appears to me that your pal isn't really doing you any favors. Shop every dealer in your state and go with the best price, then buy a shop manual. That's what I did, and the prices I was quoted varied by well over $1,000!

I am paying MSRP with not extra costs out the door at Manchester HD/Buell on my 08 12R. I will have to pay Tax and Reg when I get back o VT. If you are paying anything more than MSRP from the dealership you are getting ripped off. All those other charges are bogus in my book. They are just tring to make a little extra off of the bike. It's America who can blame them. If someone is willing to pay me $20 for a $10 item no questions asked might just be willing to sell it to them.

Wow I'm a fool. That is a much better price than I was quoted. I live in CA as well and the best price I have so far is 12800 OTD

1) Don't let the dealer know you're employee, but odds are they will if you've bought parts or clothes there and have use your discount.

2) When you submit your paperwork to HD, you'll get 20% off what you paid. I was told it was off MSRP, but have also been told that 20% was off of what you paid, because HD employees get 20% off all purchases, whether items are on clearance or on sale.

I don't think it is 20% on Buells?
Doesn't really matter as the person in question is not a Motor Co. employee
I think what the dealer is trying to tell him is that is the Dealer Employee pricing.
There is really no such thing, as a program for dealership employees. It is up to each dealer as to what they charge people that work there.

You should be able to buy the bike for the MSRP, no frt or setup, plus tax and lic from most dealerships pretty much any day.
Even in CA, I doubt the tax and lic comes up to almost 900.00?

If I lived in CA, I would probably give Ernie at Glendale a call. He seems to be a good egg.

I have seen people off the street get a better deal than they offer employees at the dealership I work at.

How much is the tax in CA? I think it is 3 percent here in NM, which would be $314.85 on the $10495 MSRP.

Our tax varies, it depends on which city you are in. I think it's just over 8% here. The "Deal" they offered basically boils down to MSRP & sales tax, no license setup, or freight fees. It's actually about $125 better than Glendale H-D/Buell offered.

Just to add a little perspective for you, msrp in France for an XB12S,
Black, €10,995 that's $15,012.
Translucent €11,395 that's $15,558.

Can you say ouch.
