They better be REAL carefull doing vehicle stops with NO probable cause.

I am PRETTY sure there academies and laws are VERY similar to ours UNLESS they DONT follow the U.S Constitution.

Those that got harrassed for a NON probable cause STOP should have a VERY good arguement ESPECIALLY IF the Trooper or Officer was running video/ audio during the stop.

I would MOST likely obtain lawyer and have a chat... This COULD bite TN in the BUTT.

Here it is... A stop with NO Probable Cause... IE... Pull over due to NOT liking motorcycles is a VIOLATION of the 4th Amendment... ILLEGAL SEARCH/SIEZURE.

Thats a BIG TIME pay day for someone IF they have proof that it occurred.

**Let me know IF anyone needs some INSIDE info.. I have the NEW updated Code book : )

I think my last day at the Gap was this past spring. It's too bad that it has to be that way. But I understand the issues.

I made 2 "full passes" (total of 4 trips across the state lines) around 11:00am on Memorial Day weekend. While I only saw a few patrols, there was an ambulance on site. It made one call in the short time I was there.

Also during that short period, I had a half dozen or more bikes pass me in horrible locations. I was driving my Corvette and keeping at a brisk pace.

As for the locals, I've had great experiences with most of them. But I've also stayed only on the NC side. Even though that side represents a small portion of the actual Gap, I'd guess they get the majority of the tourist dollars.

I'm keeping my "new spot" a secret: D

This sucks.
I've been wanting to ride the Gap since I heard about it here about 5yrs ago.
I finally had the opportunity to go this year but did not because of the rumors of things like this.
It will probably be a long time before I ever ride the dragon.

Look at it this way, ten troopers in 11 miles means hundreds of miles of other roads unmolested.

The Gap is fun, but it's a zoo. I understand why they are doing it. I hate it, but I understand why.

We are our own worst enemies. I think this is only the beginning.

Why are y'all complaining?
Obviously this is the way the honest Tennessee tax payer wants their law enforcement $$ spent.
Also I'm sure the average THP officer is totally in love with the overtime, and only having to patrol 10 or 12 miles with 10+ THP fellow officers...heaven!
Let 'em have the Dragon...
Just go ride in NC, there's the Snake near Boone, that (IMHO) is better than the Gap, there's Buck Creek, that is A-W-E-S-O-M-E and many many more roads, NC has extra nice riding.
SC has Ceaser's Head, and a few others.
GA is a meca of excellent riding...
HWY60, The Loop, Wolf Pen...
The list goes on and on.
The Dragon is a nice stretch of 12 miles or so, it is not the be all end all, last twistie out there.
Get out there and ride, outside of the great state of Tennessee.

Come to Washington State, Anatone into Enterprise, 37 miles of twisties, MINIMAL law enforcement, over 120 miles of gravel turn offs to forest roads. Could spend all week there and not ride the same road twice.

I plan on hitting that place in October. I also plan on keeping the speed within the limits and driving it safe. So I really don't think I will have a problem. I'll keep everyone posted.

I would say that the enforcement will decline as fall approaches. Paying that many folks for Friday-Sunday every weekend will cost buku deniro. Unless there is a special funding allotment, I don't believe the eastern districts have the additional funding in the budget.

I'm sure it will continue through Labor Day. Once it starts getting cooler, the volume will drop and the enforcement will return to normal.

Carlos' Trooper was pretty cool. Seemed like a nice guy. This Gap thing is someone's pet project.

I'd rather ride the Cherry Cola anyway!

Glitch hush Don't ya'll believe anything that Glitch fellow says about roads in/around Boone. : )

They were 'thick' Saturday on both sides. Running the H-bender back out turned in to a leisurely sedate cruise. We came in to Lake Lure from the west and it was a full-house of nonsense too. It was much nicer after we went north and gained some elevation and lowered the temperature -- it was smoking hot from 10:00 AM until midnight.

Anyway, the TN governor's been threatening to shutdown Killboy, et al, too. Something about the picture takers causing the wrecks (I don't remember the exact quote, but that's pretty close.) Big old steamy pile of PC crap IMO.

Deal's Gap is a sweet ride, but Glitch's right. There's many, many, spots that are just as good if not better and with minimal LEO presence.

I think I'll pass on going to Tenn. I've always heard N.C. was way better. Apparently Tenn doesnt need my tourist dollar. Sent e-mails to all listed just to let them know. This is why I love Ohio. Home of the AMA. I sent them an e-mail also to let them know. I'm sure they will get the word out to members. Not a member? Join the American Motorcyclist Association at ama-cycle.org Offer great benefits and attempt to stop ordeals such as this and more. Its your right to ride, defend it. An educated vote goes along way.

hmmm are there any great areas in south-east or east-central Georgia? That wouldn't be too far of a run from Mobile... I'd like to find a twisty infested area that I could drive to for weekend jaunts.

Speaking of the Dragon, "Thunder Road" is showing on Turner Classic Movies (TCM) right now (Monday night, August 6, 8:45 PM EDT). Much of it was filmed around Deal's Gap.

This too shall pass.

p.s. Don't listen to Glitch! There are NO good roads in North Georgia. They are all straight, the cops are worse than in Tenn. and the flesh eating virus that is rampant is getting worse. However, I hear there are really good roads to ride in North Carolina.

This IS NOT the type of enforcement action I would participate in... overtime or otherwise!!!

If this was a residential area, that would be another story, but the Dragon is in the middle of nowhere!!

I had planned on trekking to the Gap and the Cherohala in Oct... Those plans are now subject to change...

Even though most of the Dragon is in TN, I could just stop in NC just before the TN line, wave and turn around...

It's not just there team.
Happening down here too.
World wide.
We must be protected from ourselves lest we harm others.

Cops logging onto forums and following the rides . Speed blitzes by area. It's all on.
Unmarked cars everywhere. All the good twisty roads are having speed limits reduced because the idiots in cars can't keep on them.

Why I bought a dual sport - no highway patrols or radar on the dirt and the thrills are just a hairy.
