Track day coming up on monday (13th)...
I doubt my Michelin 2ct will live through it
I would not mind getting a another pair of 2ct aside from the fact that ever since the recall the front has been difficult to come by (my front is a recall tire)...
So the question is should I get Pilot power race tires for the track day, there is going to be one more track day in October (I believe) that I will be attending, and send in my front tire and have a spare 2ct for when I kill the race tires...?
Or should I try something else?

Many thanks!

If you're doing a track day, I'd buy a pair of regular Pilot Powers or any other good quality sport tire. Race tires are big bucks and very temperature sensitive, so unless you're using tire warmers and racing into turn one at maximum velocity I think you're throwing good money away.

Most track day vendors insist on running your first 1-2 laps per session at lower speeds to allow street tires to get up to temperature so save your cash, check with the tire vendor at the track day for tire pressure suggestions and you'll have a great day!

Chasespeed,
Although I did not like the profile of the diablos as much as the pilot powers, that is a good idea...
I will see if I can get a set of Corsa III
Gearhead,
That is also something I should consider, getting a set of regular pilot powers...
The biggest problem with my going conservative on a trackday is purely psychological, I get paranoid and restrain myself if I do not trust my tires...
The 2 quarter sized patches come to haunt me
I will work on it, and that surely would save me quite a bit of money...

I got Diablo SuperCorsa on there now...

even with a 190 on the back, I am LOVING the turn-in, and the stick is GREAT...

The Michelin Power are okay, but, PERSONALLY, I am not a fan of them...

I sticking with Pirelli from this point on..

FWIW, I am REALLY hard on tires... I am sure there are a few that will vouch for that...

Depends on how fast you are.
If you are fast
Race Pilots
Med/Soft compound

If you are not, then the regular Pilots will probably be ok?
Be honest with yourself

The last thing you want to do is run out of tire. That can get really expensive and painful.

The Super Corsas are a great tire also

I did a track day a few weeks ago with a new set of Pirelli Strada's. They were fine 'till the last few sessions. Once I had the track mostly figured out, the tires starts to fell slick. I was told to expect 6 to 8000 miles from the dealer. After the track day, about half the tread was worn off.

IIRC the strada's are more of a sport touring tire... You will quickly overheat them on the track....

Especially to get that kinda mileage out of them...

Chasespeed,
I will definitely keep Pirelli on the list...
Daves,
I am not sure, I would like to think that I am pretty quick. I know for fact that I am no where near the fastest out there...
I agree that having more tire then I need is much better then not having enough.
Here are the 2ct after my last track day, well used by not over stressed (I think)

All will be known when I stop by the shop later today

Well finally got back from the shop and my options are limited...
-As anticipated there are no 2ct front
-but there are also no regular pilot power rears
So one possible combination is a pilot power front and 2ct rear
-There is a set of corsa III, but they were reserved for someone (possibly)...
-No regular diablos at all
-There is one set of pilot power race

So he made me a deal, I can get the pilot race for $300 mounted (both med compound)

And he said that he will send back my recall 2ct front and he will have that one for me when the race tires wear out...

As Daves pointed out earlier, Victor (owner of the shop) told me that the reason he runs/recommends the race tires on the track is if one does something stupid they will have traction to spare to recover

I think its a worthwhile compromise...

Not to mention I picked up a nice big staple in my rear tire...

"if one does something stupid they will have traction to spare to recover"

Funny, that's the same reason I run corsas on the street even though they don't get the best mileage.

Yep, tires are cheaper than trips to the hospital!

Indeed!
So it turns out rather nicely...
I will be getting the Pilot Power Race
and by the time those are used up my recall replacement 2ct should have come in and then I only need to buy a rear 2ct...
Life is peachy!
And I have decided to spoil myself and buy a new suit and boots tomorrow!
