I was thinking of things I would need when I travel and thought it would be a good idea to have a list of all the Buell dealers in case of emergency if I didn't have my notebook/internet access. Sorry if this has been covered before.

The iPod has a Notes feature and I decided to use it. I could have also used my mobile since most support some type of Notes feature but I thought the iPod would be easier.

The first problem I ran into was I couldn't find an entire list of Buell dealers. Google didn't pull up anything. I also tried searching here but still no luck. If anyone knows where to find one let me know.

What I ended up doing was create text file for each state. I then pulled the address/contact information from Buell's web site. I'm a programmer so it was easy to automate.

The iPod Notes feature supports directories. I created a "Buell Dealers" directory on the iPod and transfered each states text file to it.

Now, if I need to find/contact a dealer all I have to do is browse with the iPod to Notes->Buell Dealers->whatever state. I will then see a list of all the dealers in that state.

I uploaded the attachment below so anyone who is interested in using/modifying it can. As I said, each state is in it's own text file. It's nothing fancy but would be ideal in an emergency situation.

Keep in mind Buell dealers change. If you know you're going to be in certain states, you may want to double check the list before your trip to see if any dealers have been added/removed.

Anyone know how to convert these addresses to an importable format for a Magellan GPS?

Do you know what type of format the Magellan GPS uses? I may be able to do it depending on the format.

I have already done this for the US and Canadian dealers. They currently are in Word. Blake has converted the Canadian list into a PDF file.

If anyone has time and interest in converting the US dealers into a PDF file I can e-mail you the Word document. Once both files are converted, Blake was going to post them on BadWeB.

I can convert the US dealers. Just send me the Word doc.

Obviously everyone may need/want a different format. If we could get a sticky somewhere maybe we could do some other conversions. I can write code if needed. I may write something to import the dealers into the windows address book. I know some devices use that as an import source.

The only problem with that is with the changing dealer list but it would be better than nothing. That's why I went with flat text files and one for each state. It only takes a few minutes to update my lists and transfer the files to the iPod. It would be nice if Buell offered a file download in a standard format(like CSV) that contained all the dealers. Conversion routines could then be written for different formats for import into different devices.

Personally, I'd do it in Google Earth. There are utilities out there to convert the Google Earth format to Garmin, TOMTOM, etc...

That's a good idea. I don't have a GPS so I won't be much good but it sounds like it would be a good place to start. Maybe(not sure) it would work with handhelds too.

"In my day...." there was a club called BRAG. It annually sent a new atlas type map listing of all of the current Buell dealers everywhere. It was an excellent idea that went away. Oh well. Maybe Buell should resume making these maps and make them available to Buell owners for a small fee.

Don't forget to take a copy of the Badweb RAN network with you.

Good idea. I just did a quick and dirty version like I did the dealers. I created a RAN folder on the iPod and made a text file for each state containing it's members. Now I've got:

iPod->Notes->Buell Dealers->State
iPod->Notes->RAN->State

Here it is if anyone wants it. I only did the US, Canada, and Mexico BTW. It's the same as the dealers. Just manually mount the iPod and transfer over the RAN folder.
