It'd be nice to have a touring bike (had a Gold Wing, long story) but with two in college, I'm going to have to get something that can double up for in-town, sport and on the road. I love the Ss, but the seat's sort of short for my wife. I'll look into the touring saddle. Is there hard bags available or is that a do-it-yourself set up I see in the pic? |

The entire bike is pretty custom. It started out life as a 'super TT'. I grafted the firebolt front fairing on it, and then a Ulysses tail section and bags to it. |

Nice work, did they let any cats out of the bag for a full production unit? esp since the parts are already in house? |

I'll quote Jon Flickinger, "We don't comment on future products". With a big shit eating grin Near the end of the day at the factory, one engineer came out and took pics of every inch of the bike. So ya never know... |

Yeah, Steve's bike had 2 very different reactions to it: 1: What? ok, it's a Uly...AAAAnd? (from those that honestly thought that it was a factory stock bike) 2: OH WOW followed by several "did you see_________?" and "do you have a list of what parts you used?" and "Buell should build these...NOW!" and of course "I want one!" those comments were rapid fire and going all day long. Poor Steve, his S3T is collecting dust because of his new bike. Who'd have thunk it possible? Then again it could be seen as opportunity to have Terry and the guys do a little internal modification on the S3.... |

it's great having an ultraclassic but i bet the way that bike is set up with the storage and the way the tt sets for shorter people that it's a pretty good ride for you and passenger. am i right or wrong steve. i wonder how the uly bags would look on my m2. The height of the TT with the Uly tail is almost identical to a standard Lightning. So yes, the bike is PERFECT for me. My 5 year old son, Thomas loves to ride on it now as well Crusty's wife sat on it, and unfortunately for Crusty, the Ulybolt is now her true love Brian, yeah, I think over the winter, I'd like to tear the whole bike down, and do some performance goodies, re-powdercoat the frame. And maybe re-paint the whole thing. |

BMW R1200RT or a BMW K1200GT would be viable alternative for touring. Comfort, speed, and handling. |

Interesting bike Jim! I've recently fallen in lust with the (white/blue) XB12R, and was wondering how easy it is to switch tail sections & bars. Would the bars from a Uly fit within the confines of the Firebolt fairing? I realize the "R" cables and brake line might need to be replaced with "X" parts... Does the "R" use a typical bar clamp, or do the bars hang off the upper forks? For the tail section, swapping it is pretty much plug & play? 99% of my riding is A to B commuting, 50 miles per day over mostly rural 2-lane. A tank bag plus a small tail pack would be suitable for most days. I'm 5'8"/145# & fairly limber for being 42, so the 'race mode' ergos of the 'R' shouldn't cause me much pain on my brief rides. It would be nice to have the option to load up for an extended trip (hard bags, trunk, and a decent perch/backrest for the Mrs.) Also since money is (sort of) an object, approx what is the price of a 'complete' Uly XT or XP tail? Thanks & ride smart! |
