Last week I tore my biceps muscle in my left arm. No, I wasn't doing anything cool or outrageous, in fact it was just a simple act of lifting. Well after going to the ER and having them tell me just about nothing other than they can't really tell how bad it is or what will have to be done to fix it I'm running worst case scenarios through my mind. I've been told that it would probably take 3-4 months to heal if they operate and 5-6 months if they don't. I won't see the Orthopedist until Thursday. Since I have time I thought I would see what kind of feedback I could get from everyone here. |

I tore a muscle in my leg a couple years back in a Sparring match @ a tournament. it took me over 5 and a half months before I had full mobility. SUCKED!!! I had to wear a brace for the entire 5 months. |

Sorry to hear it, cuz it really does suck. I tore some smaller ones in my shoulder last summer and it took close to 7 months before I full mobility and strength back. |

I tore a stomach muscle barefoot waterskiing and a calf muscle wakeboarding. I never did anything about it except suffer for a few months & then it mostly fixed itself. Once in a while my calf cramps up but I'm not sure if it has anything to do with the old injury. |

Found a good doctor they will prescribe you what you need. Those few prescription drugs with proper high protien diet will allow for quick recovery. Also a good PT. Both are hard to find. |

I tore my triceps last October. The doctor wanted to try healing without surgery. it was one bad day after another and a miserable Holiday season. In early January I had surgery and started to heal immediately. Within a month or so after the surgery I was feeling very good. Seven months later I am about back to the weight I was lifting before. When the doctor got in to my arm he found some tendons that looked like oatmeal (he said)and he never would have known if he hadn't cut. Hopefully you are seeing an orthopod that specializes in sports medicine. Good luck. |

Thanks for all the replies, right now I will settle for an orthopod that will see me this year. I was told by the Nurse Practitioner that saw me my best bet would be with the one who was on call that day, and I have found that she is pretty much right. I'm working on reading through the links. They have a lot of info in them, thanks Sleez. I'll know soon if I have to turn in my tags and just putt my ride around the property to keep the juices flowing in it. Hopefully I will be back riding by HH3 and I can tell my wife I have to go as therapy for my arm, yeah, that sounds good! (Message edited by xbduck on August 02, 2007) |

Doctors are like car mechanics. They only get paid if they wrench on YOU. Last time at a doc for a hernia repair. I wanted to see if he could do it a certain way - liproscopic and place the patch from the inside. He said he doesn;t do them. I say ok but not thanks to the old school big scar crap. He then say he will get another doctor to step in and help. BUT WANTED ME to sign a release that gave him the option to do either or both methods. NO THANKS. I have the nurse get me another doc. Chief surgeon comes in and say your allright don't worry about having surgery. __ just remember they get paid to cut if they are a surgeon, a nut case doc gets paid to give you pills, etc etc |

I tore a hamstring a few years back it took a full 9 months to heal properly I did have to work through it so it took longer than usual but I don't know it still balls up on me very easily, I could have healed faster if I opted for surgery though I was told |

I have torn both pecs, my right tricep, and my right quad. I have had the best success with surgical repair, but surgical repair is really dependent on where the actual tear is located. |

Well I saw the doctor today and was told that he couldn't feel the distal tendon that holds both long and small heads of the biceps to the forearm. Now I have to wait for the insurance people to give the big OK for an MRI to confirm his findings. He was kind enough to tell me that if the tendon has pulled from the bone I will spend 2-3 months in a cast after the surgery, then to a limited range of motion brace for 2 more months. If by some great miracle it tore in the middle the recovery time is weeks not months. Can you guess what I'm praying for on the MRI? |
