OK, It's time for a new family truckster. I've narrowed it down to two vehicles I think. The Acura RDX and the Land Rover LR2. I'll get either one fully loaded. I've done a lot of research, talked to a lot of sales people driven both etc etc etc... Reviews are mixed. Sooo I figure there are some damm fine and damm smart people on this page, what are their thoughts? Up front the RDS is sportier (But I allready have the XB12Ss and an Acura RXS Type S, so sporty is taken care of. The LR-2 is a more functional 4x4, but is it worth the 5K more? Will the resale value hold? Will it last me 250K miles? HELP! |

RDX, it will not leave you stranded. As much as I like LR's they do still have electrical gremlins. The RDX has that great AWD setup, along with the new turbo motor. The only downside is some cheap switch gear. As for off road, they are both soft roaders, so if you were really looking for a dirt vehicle you wouldn't be looking in this area at all. Of course you could forget the 2 of these, and buy a few years old Toyota Land cruiser. |

Of course you could forget the 2 of these, and buy a few years old Landcruiser. Absolutely, I own a 2006 LC and have 255thousand with minimal problems. Mostly because my dealer doesnt stock parts. If you want a new one though, my thoughts would be Land Rover. My 2 cents worth, thanks for listening. Best of luck to you. (Message edited by wile_ecoyote on July 30, 2007) |

RDX, and I test these things for a living. My wife and I just bought a '07 TSX and I talked my parents in to an '08 MDX, Acura has a great product line right now. The LR2 is a HUGE improvement over the Freelander, and a very nice, very capable machine, but I just don't think it is quite on par with the RDX when it comes to ownership experience or reliability, although that I-6 is real smooth. Also, if you have any pretensions of dirt roads or unpaved places, the LR2 is the better choice. If you are talking about long-term value and longevity, RDX. --Sean |

Go for what you call an LR3 (Discovery 3 here) get the TDV6 it's an absolutely blinding engine, 2.7l twin-turbo common rail diesel, the lump was developed in a Ford/Peugeot-Citroen partnership. It's powerful & economic too. I don't know diddly about the Acura we don't get them here. LR2 (Freelander 2) sorry, it's a 4x4 for hairdressers. What about an FJ Cruiser? Friends of mine own the Acura (I think it's the one you're considering). Very nice station wagon. I'd go with the LR based soley on the fact that it's a LR. Not saying they're rare, but you don't see them nearly as often as an Acura. I think both would a good choice though - Does either one of them really "grab" you? I tend to by vehicles with way more emotion than common sense. I drive a supercharged Chevy Cobalt that's been pretty good to me, but not without a few minor inocvienences. But it puts a smile on my face in a way that no Honda could match. |

Had a similar dilemma, bought the Ford and another Buell, and some Sam Adams, still saved money. |

I'd buy a Ford. I'm biased, being a Ford retiree and all. I can even get you a discount through the X-Plan program. I've got 2 PINs left. |

Early 70's Bronco. I've always had a thing for the land rovers myself but I wouldn't buy anything newer than a '94 "County LWB". I wouldn't buy anything older than that either though so... I think out of the choices you gave I'd buy a... well... I guess I'd buy an LR3. |

I have driven and reviewed all of the vehicles listed above. --Sean |

You guys must must miss out on some absolutely cracking vehicles, just cos your importers won't bring in diesels. If you keep asking for them they will come! |

We've been asking for more diesel options and they don't listen. Even VW who is the only real diesel car importer will only bring in limited numbers and keeps options DOWN. Nor will they bring in Audi diesel. I would love to have a new VW Golf 2dr PD150 Sport AWD with a 6 speed. Just a simple chip upgrade and you've got over 180hp and 300ft/lbs of torque while getting 45mpg! But VW wouldn't bring that car to the US market even though it was the cleaner engine - back then. Black chopper -- I think big brother had a hand in keeping imports down low. It would greatly effect the big three. |
