It is all conjecture Blake and that is why I take offence to Court asking me to back up my statement and telling me to "prove it". I have nothing to prove! I'm just throwing stuff out in the air like anybody else here commenting on this thread. The 60 degree Rotax, although a great engine, is not what I would call an ideal fit for Buell. That engine is getting older now and I wouild bet that it is close to the end of it's development cycle. I'm sure that Piaggio/Aprillia and Rotax are hard at work for the next generation installment of that engine right now. I find it hard to believe that Rotax could be developing a new proprieatory engine exclusively for Buell without any previous media leaks up until now. When Rotax was developing the 60 degree twin for Aprillia the motorcycle press knew about the development of that engine for almost two years prior to it's release. So I am skeptical that all of a sudden we might have a clean sheet engine in the near future without so much as a whisper until now. I obviously hope for a clean sheet design, a 45 degree V, counterbalanced, liquid cooled, 8 valve engine with 1200cc's of displacement and lots of sexy aluminum fins would be ideal in my mind. But given the long development times new production engines require, and given the fact that there has been absolutely no leaks at all until just months ago about about the possible Buell/Rotax relationship, I would have to assume that IF there is a new Buell engine that it would be based on the current 60 degree V twin currently and readily available. I absolutely hope to God I am wrong on the latter. But hey it's all just speculation and conjecture. I don't have to prove any of it. | ||

Not quite sure what Blake is talking about either actually. Not quite sure what I said that borders on personal attack, indignation or egomania. Would like to know what Blake thinks of the possibility of a Rotax engine. Do you think HD will assemble the engines over here or will Rotax ship them over from Austria? | ||

I can't get excited over photoshop pics. Historically, they've always been pretty far off...especially if it's an "artists rendering". Now if it was a prototype or pre-production pic that'd be a different story. | ||

I don't know much about Rotax engines other than they seem to be well respected. If an engine looks ugly to me, I won't like it. Aesthetics are important to me for my own road going motorcycle. For racing, I don't care much one way or the other as long as it works well. Twin cylinder machines are the victims of much prejudice in some of the top levels of road racing these days. I'd sure like to see some rules changes in MotoGP and AMA Superbike, AMA Supersport, and AMA Superstock that would allow two cylinder machines to compete competitively and on a level playing field exactly like has been done for twin cylinder machines in World Superbike and World Supersport and like the AMA has done in Formula Xtreme. | ||

Court forever teasing us because he already knows but will never tell. It's like asking a kid what his favorite candy is and then explaining all the great yummy qualities that could be in a newer version of said candy but then saying guess you will have to wait until you goto the store to see if what I say is true because I can't share.  Toronto S3 I agree with you, not sure why Court would call you out on your speculation unless it is somewhat accurate considering you are the only one that has been asked for proof. | ||

I had a Rotax in my Mille R Nice motor Too bad the bike was too heavy, too long WB and couldn't corner like a XB12R Blend the two and ????  We will all know on Sat. | ||

let me get this straight.... what we are sayin here is that Court knows, but isn't gonna tell us. and all we are doing is running off at the mouth like high school cheerleaders until we find out the truth? gotcha. that's what i thought it was. just for the record: what is the official time of announcement? and will it be posted here by someone official (ie, Court or the all knowing anony?) or are we forced to speculate even after the announcement? | ||

As for the Red bike picture above: It isn't simply mirror imaged, That is a rear brake lever you see there. Also, I believe that that is a Lightning Long/Ulysses frame in that picture. I am not saying it isn't a photochop, but it sure is an odd set of circumstances if it is. | ||

Only the XB9R was being discontinued, not the XB12R. You know, kinda like the XB12R now becomes the "little" XBR, and something else becomes the big one. I don't think that photo is photoshop, and the text above it is clearly Buell add copy. Motorcyclist might photoshop up a fake Buell, but I don't think they would add marketing slogans to the top of it... I'm looking forward to seeing that motor sans bike. That ain't no 60 degree Aprilla motor... |
