This darn bike is going to get me in trouble one of these days. I find myself dragging footpegs and popping the front wheel in the air (less then a foot up) everytime I'm riding to or from work... Or about anywhere for that matter. The worst part is, I work less than a mile from my house! I've found a good corner (yeah, one corner) near my house that is about the perfect profile for me to practice hard cornering, and perfect my technique.. (ok, LEARN a technique). No traffic, no gravel, smooth, flat. I started at a casual pace of 35mph, and worked my way up to a brisk 50 mph. At that point I'm dragging a peg if I stay upright, but not even close when I'm off the seat and really leaning into it. Now I need to snap a few pictures of me in action and get some input from you all. I had a great ride with WolfRidgeRider last weekend. (which really inspired this post) I found that I have MUCH to learn. I'm now reading this book: and it's given me some GREAT ideas. I can't wait to go try some of them! I've got 3 months to really learn how to ride before the Mid Ohio track day. Sorry. Sitting here at work all day staring out the window at the bike inspires these long posts. |

Only an hour and a half of work left before I can head over to my practice corner and get a few sweeps in. The lesson to practice today: Steer with one hand! A common problem is people using both hands to steer the bars, and they end up fighting with it. Using one hand (the inside hand, pushing) usually results in much faster and smoother cornering. I'll report back with my findings. ::EDIT:: Both hands remain on the handlebars, just put muscle to only one. That sounds better I suppose (Message edited by Mikef5000 on July 06, 2007) |
