It doesn't look great to me. I'm not buying it, meaning the photo accurately representing what Buell may unveil this weekend.

Anybody looking CAREFULLY at that picture Barker put up? Looks kinda different than the mill I have in my bike. Looks Rotax-ISH.

not just a mirror image, unless the new bike has the front brake on the left side...

I agree Cochise! Looks like a water hose in white, and last time I looked, my brake lever is on the same side! Plus the vent under the steering head goes from one side of the bike to the other visually.

You boys need to remember--in the bike world our r/s drive is the odd man out. Everything else I own has drive sprocket on the left, as is pictured above.

I see since Rocket emailed me that he is no longer here you have picked Toronto S3 as your new whipping boy...interesting. So court...are you going to the dealer show since you can properly spell Erik's name? I would like to think this is the year for Buell to have a new powerplant and finally be the complete bike that some people want it to be, finally a good grade from cycleworld or sport biker magazine, a "hyper bike" to keep up with the collective jones and their ZX14's and new ultra fast machines...good or bad the brand could be heading in a new direction from a more exotic niche bike to a mainstream bike that can say "own the racetrack" instead of just the corners...maybe that is what we all want, something new, smoother, better, faster...I am definitely not opposed...as I leave and go back to lurking I leave you with this question?? Would you buy the first year of it? or wait for them to debug it a bit, I had a 2003 XB..spent more time in the shop than out of it, traded it off after 10000 miles...and fifteen visits to the dealership to find the multiple problems...maybe this one is different, maybe it comes out perfect like the 1098 seems to have come...I truly hope so because I truly love this brand....have a good weekend.

You'l be quite comfy buying the first year.

I've bought 4 first years Buells. The 1995 has seen 44 states and never been anything but fun.

That picture looks like it may be the real thing, hopefully not.I think if Buell is going to come out with a new engine, the bike should look new also. The current Firebolt looks great, but it is time for an update.

Hey Neil,
yeah man I am riding everyday, bought a new lift and rearranged the place to accomodate it, I am restoring my 73 X90 for my nephew, christmas present for him to go with his 50cc Elsinore Honda...I would be happy to buy another buell, but I am starting a business so I am sucked dry right now...but once it is up and going yeah i would buy it if it were better in some way than my 05 firebolt or 99 X1, both are nice machines that do what I want...but if it is a better machine in the same vein as I want, the reason the buell got me in the first place..that similarity to the Two Strokes of old, that short wheel base and wicked feeling of being on the edge...well yeah I would buy one definitely, but I won't sell my other four, just add it in ya know... I need to ride up there and see you bro, I went to statesboro for dinner memorial day...the fires kinda smoked me out a bit, but georgia was nice...alright gotta bail email me and I will send you some sites to check out...

I would by the first generation...
I did with my XB12R and no real problems with that one.
In fact I think all the bikes that I have ever owned were first generation bikes...

Would you buy the first year of it?

Good question. I did with the Uly but most of the major components were carry overs from earlier models. My Uly has been Rock solid, with 20,000 miles of trouble free service. The only thing that is wrong with the bike is the rider.

Just for the record - if this is true - Buell is on the right track as long as they follow the BMW & Ducati models. They can have the new superbike and the old aircooled bike side by side. The Lightning and Uly will still sell well.

This is mighty fine photochop.

I tend to like my rear brakes and axles with the hole in the center.

I also like my rear tires completely round.

Nice fabrication, but ummmm.....no.

Ft_bstard, the photo of the red bike is just that - a photo. It appears someone took an actual picture of the magazine page and gave that image to us. The page wasn't completely flat, hence the distorted image. You can see the wrinkles and shadow from the slightly rumpled page. The wheels would be round, certainly. It's hard to make out any more details from the given photo. As far as it being a photoshop creation, that is a good possibility.

I have the mag and saw it last night.
THE PHOTO IS PHOTOSHOPPED

When you look at it you can tell the front wind gaurd has been drawn in along with a few other things.

If there is any truth to it, They don't know for sure, but it sure gets some excitement around Buell. I believe BUell has to do something to make their bike more competative with the big 4. Say what you will, Buell has always been a few steps behind performance-wise. I love my M2, but it is no challenge for a Yamaha R6

Regarding the R6 comment. All I can say is "Which bike would you get bored on first?" I ride my mates Hayabusa and can't wait to get back on my X1. Sure, it's fast, but it's like riding an appliance. If Buell starts making more mainstream bikes, I think they are heading in the wrong direction.

I'm not sure it's in the wrong direction. They are in business to make money but I agree Buell will lose some of it's specialness. It's invitable - time marches on. One day the Homecoming will probably get huge and impersonal and Mr. Buell will step down and the only time you'll see him is at special events in a wheelchair, so; enjoy the ride while you can.

You should have seen the excitement in Erik's eyes whether he was looking at the pristine blue RS and describing what went into the design and construction, or when he was looking at Steve Mackay's special TT/Uly/Firebolt (or whatever name he has for it). That man has passion for his cycles, and I don't ever see it wavering.

All too often people nitpick and criticize Buell but I sure don't see them stepping up to the plate to put their livelyhood on the line to follow their passion.
