I'm here at Fontana Village on vacation until July 6. Haven't seen a Buell yet.

I was there last Thursday.

Rode Cherohala Skyway for the first time (Rt. 143). Don't miss it.

I had a great time this year...saw another XB on the Blue Ridge Parkway on the way down, and a Firebolt while at the Dragon.

Have fun,
Bill

This is my third trip here; first on the Uly. Stayed off the Dragon today; figured traffic would be VERY heavy. Took 28 to 129 to 19 to Wayah Bald Road to Franklin, then 28 back. Not too much traffic but enough cages to prevent any really spirited running. Still didn't see any Buells but I'll bet I've passed 20 V-Stroms.

I figure I'll explore some less-famous roads tomorrow and save the Dragon and Cherhola Skyway rides for the week when traffic will hopefully be a little lighter.

The Honda Hoot was going on when I was there so traffic was heavy on the Dragon. But on the whole Cherohala Skyway only saw about 10 vehicles, didn't catch up to any.

On the Dragon the sportbikes were just catching up to the cruisers and cars then pulling over and waiting a while, then doing it again. Still had a great time.

Met Barker this morning and talked to him for a while. Saw 3 or 4 other Buells. I even saw three Vincents and followed one of them through the Dragon this morning.

Nice meeting ya!

Met "Itchybro" ( XB12Ss) after we talked.

P.S. I found another rock in my belt!

Yea, nice meeting you too, Matt. That belt of yours is pretty incredible.

Hey Matt,

You made Killboy's front page:

I've seen a few more Buells during the week. Another black Uly even pulled up here at Fontana last night; he's staying in the same building as us.

I went up on the 4th with my uncle on his M2 and his friend on an Ultra Classic. It was only my 2nd ride since I broke my ankle at the end of April, so I took it nice and easy. We rode the speed limit and had a really relaxing ride.

With the exception of some douchebag squids on v-rods, things were pretty quiet. The police were out in force. I saw a cruiser and no less than 3 unmarked cars our way down.

I got home yesterday about 6 PM; I took the long way home through the mountains of western NC. I always try to pick new roads to try. This time I came route 107 south out of Sylva. It looked good on the map but wasn't so good in real life. First ~10 miles were 4 lane and there was lots of traffic (including trucks) most of the way. Good twisties, but VERY rough pavement and construction in several locations. Took 64 east which is always a gamble with heavy tourist traffic, then 178 south. It has some great twisties, and traffic wasn't bad until I got near the bottom and got stuck behind two grannies from Florida in a Buick.

The Uly did fine except for one weird bout on Tuesday after I came down 441 above Cherokee. I stopped in Bryson City for some breakfast and when I got back on the bike, it didn't want to idle, dying a couple of times shortly after cranking it. I had to hold the throttle open to keep it running until I got it on the road. It did fine during the ~30 mile ride back to Fontana and never acted up again. I chalked it up to the long, slow (lots of traffic) downhill ride from altitude (~5000 ft) temporarily screwing up the ECM.

Best of all, after ~350 miles riding in mostly ~95 deg. F heat yesterday I felt pretty fresh when I got off the bike last night and I don't have any weird aches or pains today. Hopefully I can get back up to the twisties again soon.

Haha, I wish I could say the same. Sunday was my first time back on the bike since late April. We headed out at 9:00 AM, and by the time we got home at 6:00 PM, I was toast. It probably doesn't help that I lost 20 lbs on the Broken Ankle Diet and don't have as much butt padding as I used to. : )

Hey Hugh -- good to see you at Fontana. Sorry we didn't talk long but both of us were pretty hungry from riding all day. The Fontana is really looking good isn't it? Food is much better and a liquor license is a plus.

Hey DAve,

Yea, it was good to see you too. You are DAve with Dad in Wedgefield, SC, right? I didn't recognize you at the time.
