It seems like everytime i change the oil in my X1 i either over or underfill it. I usually only get about a quart out of the oil tank, how do i get the rest of the oil out? Are there any special tricks to changing the oil i should know. Thanks! Chris |

On my 2000 X1 I always fully warm up the bike before I drain it , a 10 minute ride usually does it. Turn it off and pull the plug, next I get out an empty milk container cut it up so it fits under the filter, and take off the filter without getting oil everywhere. Then put fresh oil on filter gasket and fill new filter halfway, then set that quart aside . Next , install filter ,reinstall plug , and empty the contents of quart into oil tank ,get out another quart and pour it into tank. Start bike and let it fully warm up check for leaks ,10 minute ride and then check level. top off as necessary, too little is better than too much . The way the oil system is on these bikes you can never drain all of the oil out. |

2kx1: ditto, I learned the hard way about too much. Oil got the rear wheel completely covered. Made for an interesting ride home. |
