You think a 12 foot wall is going to stop a terrorist or a drug smuggler? Yes it will stop some drug smugglers. And could cause a huge decrease in illegal drug supply. Not just a wall but a secure border. Key words are secure and border. You lock your car when you park it? You shut your garage door when you leave? When you fly you must show a valid ID? A secure border is a saftey measure that must be implemented. A lot of "what if's" could happen and at that point we would regret not having the ablity to protect our country. |

A wall is not a panacea but it is a start. At least it will slow down the rate at which illegals cross. Fining employers that hire illegals is good but I can get false papers for about $100 and trust me this is no b.s. So, some system of identifying citizens from non-citizens would need to be ironed out. If you think healthcare cost the taxpayers a lot now, wait till Hillary universal healthcare kicks in. |

"So, some system of identifying citizens from non-citizens would need to be ironed out." I'm using my powers of recall for this response, so... I seem to remember this being a goal during the Reagan administration. "...I can get false papers for about $100..." Sure you can. But there are too many employers that blatantly hire illegals knowingly. Go to any construction site, restaurant, farm, and landscaping business and talk to the owners. They'll give you a wink and nod if chit-chat about the number of illegals working for them. Let's start tarring and feathering these parasites and leeches, take away their vehicles and homes... then see how many illegals are blatantly hired. The simple fact of the matter is the government isn't giving us what we paid for. If I cheat on my taxes, I get audited, fined and maybe imprisoned. There are millionaires out there whose employees aren't paying taxes. The government has a system I can't beat, but an uneducated, illegal foreigner can, because an AMERICAN CITIZEN is facilitating it. Instead of building walls, take the reason why they are here away... the JOBS. I personally know two illegals now. They've both been here for over 20 years, making money under the table and not paying taxes. One is English and the other one is Irish, btw. How high would that wall have to be? "SEVERE penalties for Employing Illegals. And that includes beltway housekeepers. Problem would be solved in ONE yr." Finally... I had the feeling I was running through the streets but everyone was already a pod-person. |

"SEVERE penalties for Employing Illegals. And that includes beltway housekeepers. Problem would be solved in ONE yr." Last year on the order of 5,000,000 bogus social security numbers were used in employment. FICA taxes were paid, yet these people will obviously never be able to collect any social security. Income taxes were withheld, at least for federal, often for state or municipal. There will be no refunds for these taxes since no returns will be filed. It would seem to be a relatively simple matter to find at least some of these people and kick them out. Sure, some are just morons who can't remember their SS#, but most are illegals. Why doesn't the government do this? Maybe they don't want to lose all that free money? Ever wonder why they promote stamp collecting? Same concept. A national ID program has been discussed for years. Georgia passed a voter ID program at least twice and the courts have stopped it. For some reason one political party doesn't want it. Go figure?? On the other hand, each generation of Americans have been pretty intent on keeping the new-comers out. I think the big difference now is the seeming lack of desire on the new immigrants to assimilate. |

"I think the big difference now is the seeming lack of desire on the new immigrants to assimilate." I could never understand that. Why anyone would find it important to bring a little bit of the shit-hole they came from here is beyond me. Learn the language and don't kill goats in your backyard. I actually had some Bosnian neighbors that did that. I was always worried they were going to start a feud with the Serbian family down the street, the family who wouldn't mow their yard because it wasn't important in Serbia. Assimilate, damnit! Seriously. |

I love the foreign restaurants in the US, though. I love Persian and middle-eastern food. Let's keep that. |

The Berlin Wall wasn't disassembled overnight. You want to live in the same state as Berlin was in back then? Depends on which side of the wall you are on, doesn't it? My solution is to annex Mexico so that US people and companies an go in there and straighten things out. Mexico is a rich country that's being bankrupted by corruption. |

Becareful of what you wish for. With stricter boarder enforcement you;ll see a decline in authentic mexican restraunts. That's would be a trajedy. |

"Why anyone would find it important to bring a little bit of the shit-hole they came from here is beyond me." Bring a little bit, that's fine. Ethnic restaurants, churches, festivals, etc. are a great way to keep a little of the "old sod" in your heart. However, don't come here and tell us how bad the US is and how much better it is somewhere else. Hey! Delta is ready when you are. |

Hey, while we're at it, we can put up some barbed wire, and searchlights, and maybe some land mines and stuff too. Raus! Halt! Then the black helicopters can shoot anything in between the fences, and we can say that the evil mexicans are trying to rule the world. "I must haf you papers please." Minuteman vacation plans. Cap the poor guy before he gets to that lawnmower and mows your grass. Geez. We're getting worse than the warsaw pact was during the cold war. I think we need to take a long look in the mirror and ask ourselves where exactly it is that we could have gone wrong. Remember freedom? The American Dream? Remember when motorcycles were about drinking beer and chasing chicks? Are you old enough to remember life before big brother? Before the patriot act? Can you remember when marijuana wasn't a crime? When cops were your friends? What the hell happened? |

I cut my own grass. I've never smoked weed. Nor do I drink alchol and ride motorcycles. And I still have a few cops phone numbers on speed dial. I guess we all live in a different America. What happened? TV/media, liberals, politcians, militarized nation, welfare society, lawsuits, drugs (legal and illegal) take your pick. |

Cap the poor guy before he gets to that lawnmower and mows your grass Wait a minute, let me check inside my shirt...nope my hearts not bleeding yet. My compassion level is pretty low for those who enter my country illegally, take jobs from my countrymen (they are not all cleaning hotels and plucking chickens), diminish public education which hurts my children, and take money out of my pocket in the form of taxes I have to pay to support them. And these are the so-called "law abiding, hard working" illegals. For the ones that come to gang bang, deal drugs, murder and otherwise commit crimes there are a whole 'nother set of things they take from society. When someone invokes Nazi's, communists and the American Dream in a single argument they are either Dick Durbin, or in a weak position in the debate. Marijuana possession became a federal crime in the U.S. in 1937 with the passage of the Marijuana Tax Act. Many (pro-pot advocates) feel that this was a measure taken not for public health reasons but to give the federal government a tool to use against Mexicans coming into the U.S. (this was before the Alien Registration Act of 1940). I think we need to take a long look in the mirror and ask ourselves where exactly it is that we could have gone wrong. I may be in the minority here, but for all of our troubles I think this is still the best place in the world to live. There are problems now, but there have always been problems. History has a way of identifying what was really important in any given era. The American Dream has always really been about making a better life for your children than you had yourself. If we have gotten off track, thinking about "me" and "now" has a lot to do with it. |
