I just bought a 2005 Buell Blast as my first bike and have many questions:
1) What kind of gasoline do I use? I'm getting closer to 50mpg rather than the 70mpg I'd expected.
2) What kind of routine maintenance (daily, weekly, monthly, annually) does it need? Should I pay the dealer for a "tune up" every year?
3) Do I need to let the bike sit and ideal to warm up before riding?
4) What about winter storage? A buddy of mine goes out and starts his bike once a week (or month?) during the winter. Another uses a trickle charger and doesn't touch his bike all winter.

Congratulations!!!!!
My wife has one, we both love it.
You need to go prowl around in the "Thumper section". Everything you would ever want to know is there, along with some things you don't, and the guy's there will let you in on anything you can't find.

1. Run premium
2. Change oil/filter every 3000 miles and trans fluid at 6000.
3. It works best on mine to let it idle for about 2 minutes and it will be better for the engine to run it fairly easy for the first few miles as the oil warms up.
4. I have found it is not good for the engine to be started in the winter unless you will warm it up completely as in riding for at least five miles. Starting in cold damp weather will cause condensation within the engine and it does not help anything but fouling the plug. Just pull the battery out charge it and store it on a non-grounded shelf or bench. Oil consumption can be from using the wrong weight of oil for the season. Get a service manual it is the best money you can spend on the bike.

Have fun. If you treat it right the Blast is almost a no effort machine to maintain.

Congratulations on your new motorcycle!!!

The first place to start is the owner's manuel. Read it from front to back and make sure your doing what it suggests. It don't matter how long you've been riding motorcycles, you'll still learn something by reading the manuel.

(1) I use premium gas in my motorcycle but you should use what the manuel recommends! As the motor gets broken in, your gas mileage will increase.

(2)follow the manuel for maintenance schedule. I change my oil every 2500 miles and get the motorcycle dealer serviced every 5000 miles.

(3)yes, always let the motorcycle run to warm-up before riding.

(4)I start my motorcycle every week during the winter. I actually rode my bike all but four weeks all last winter. I also use a trickle charger to help maintain the battery. Some people even use Sta-bil in the gas but I don't sine I run it so often.

Now the most important thing is to just ride it every chance you can and you'll even enjoy it more!!!

Ride safe!

If you're riding straight city you can expecte between 50 and 65 mpg depending on how hard you ride it. If you're having lots of fun on turns and traffic and getting on the throttle a lot, you're looking at 50 to 55 (don't ask how I know that) but if you calm down a bit drive like it's a bigger bike and not as fun, you'll easily get 65 to 68. I average 62 because I can't go one way or the other.

premium.

2) What kind of routine maintenance (daily, weekly, monthly, annually) does it need? Should I pay the dealer for a "tune up" every year?

Buy a manual, a few simple hand tools and torque wrenches and do it yourself - save time and money.

3) Do I need to let the bike sit and idle at all to warm up before riding?

30 sec.s or when it drops to normal - wait at least for that, then go!

4) What about winter storage? A buddy of mine goes out and starts his bike once a week (or month?) during the winter. Another uses a trickle charger and doesn't touch his bike all winter.

I ride!
