Sorry.

I had an XB12R and pretty much believe it is the perfect motorcycle. However, I always secretly wished I'd bought the 9R and put a big-bore kit in it, to have a shorter-stroke engine w/higher red line.

People will tell you that you'll be happy with either one, to test ride, then buy the one you like best. I say, if you don't intend on enlarging the 9's engine, go ahead and get the 12. Unless you get a screaming deal on a 9, of course.

Steve

I've only owned the 12 and not a 9, so I can't advise you based on my personal experience.
However, I really like my XB12X.

Whatever makes you happiest. Go to a dealership and test ride them. Or you could read through the links below. Personally, I prefer to ride. The search function is a useful tool. I found these by searching "XB12 or XB9" from the past 300 days. Good luck and have fun.

I've owned two 12's, ridden a few 9's. Impressions: 9 vibrates noticeably less at idle and is freer-reving. 12 has way more low RPM torque and OOMPH. Think about which of those appeals to you most, then ride them both and decide.

The 9 MIGHT be easier on insurance (check for your area)

Actually the 9 has really good deals going right now because they're phasing it out.

If I had it to do over again, I'd still get the 9 - it has enough power to frighten me. If you are going to throw LOTS of money into performance goodies, the 9 bored out to 3 13/16 bore makes a sweet, fast-revving motor.

that's an easy choice! the XB12, because they don't make the Ulysses in a XB9!!!

The Ulysses is the best motorcycle ever made!

"They" dont make a adventuresport XB9.... I did at our shop , Pic on profile, 10k miles in 8 months, over 25% on dirty bendy roads and off pavement. Had I known the TT was coming, I would have gone there, but hindsight... yadda yadda. Get the one that puts the biggest grin on your face after the demo!

You got blue and gunfire primarily because the 9ers love the 9 and the 12ers love the 12 and the whole thing is a big argument. Personally, I'd go with the Blast.

We have three nines in the garage and a Uly with the 12 mtr. The nine is a smoother running mtr (less vibes). But the 12 is stronger (more torque).
Like others have said weigh the pro's and con's of each, either way Buells are fun to ride, so you can't go wrong.

I went to a demo day, and signed up to ride both. I have no interest in buying a new bike anytime soon, but I really wanted to feel the difference in the two motors.

I feel the 9 is similar to a normal motor, with a smooth powerband, and fairly smooth running and quick revving.
The 12 was FAR from normal. It was balls-to-the-wall power at ANY rpm. You want torque? HERE IT IS! No matter what gear you're in, or what RPM.

They both were PLENTY powerful for me. But the 12 was my motor of choice by far and away. I enjoy things that aren't normal.

Well, I tried to say similar to normal... Like... the 9 is a little closer to normal than the 12. Both have torque, this fact alone makes them not normal at all. But the 9 is a little... normaller. If you will.

I've had an 03 XB9S with the performance kit and sold it (kept the pipe and K&N filter) and put it on a 07 XB12Scg that I bought at a really good price used with 1k on it. I do like the 12 better, as it has more power. I liked the silver frame on the 9 though. Just but what you can afford, there both good bikes.

I dunno-I just bought a race kitted 9r(Thanks man if yer reading!) and it seems to have good power all over the place-yes a little less oomp, but it is super silky, and the power comes on soon enough. I really like the 9 motor, wish I would have sprung for one much sooner...

It really depends on where, and how you ride.

If you like to keep it wound tight and run near redline the 9 is for you.

If you like to lope along and let the torque do the work/ride all day in one gear the 12 fits.

Try them out and see how each feels to you.

I have a 9 that was converted to a 1250 (X1 crank) : )
