Thank you. I'd wish the same to you... but I don't see how you possibly could living in a world where the RUB's run rampant like that.

RR'er did say something I understand. There are certain people who buy into the mystique, ride every other Saturday to the dealership or restaurant and set about putting out the bad vibe and verbal harassment to anyone who rides the wrong kind of bike. I met a few of them on my Old Wing and more of them in the short time since I've had my Blast. They open their mouths and you know they're idiots. I tend to ignore them or tell them that I really like their Suzuki Shadows and that usually stops them for a moment. There are other RUBs, folks who buy expensive bikes and ride them once a month, who are pretty cool, sort of like the characters in Wild Hogs and I just let them by.

I've never had anyone try to fight me, though. Probably because I look like I'd start crying or something.

Ask someone who has driven acrose the great plains of this USA more than a dozen times why he prefers to trailer. My trip across SD last may was my last time on a motorcycle. I love my trailer, I may buy a Dodge Sprinter van to haul my bike around more economically. Ran across this thread after getting back from the ER today. The arthritis in my left leg has dissolved enough of the cartilage I can no longer set off down a flight of stairs with any resonable assuarance of making it. I hope none of my riding friends ever catch someone sneering at my trailer or my legitamacy as a biker, a good share of them have spent half of their adult lives in prison and are easliy angered.

In general it is a real good idea to not offend anyone riding a motorcycle, the phrase armed and dangerous applys to more of them than you realize. Sonny Barger has been known to ride BMWs. The meanest SOB I've ever met rides a red/silver K1200RS and his last prison stretch was three years for stabbing a man in a rest stop for sitting on his bike. Wears all the Aerostitch and full face helmet. Mild mannered looking guy. I think his wife is tougher tho.

I just found out that my hardcore riding buddy (Heritage Springer, btw) packs a J-frame S&W in his boot. Has been every time I've been riding with him. We've been in a tight spot or two, and he never let on that he had a trump card.

Glad we never bumped into any RUBs, though.

I hear there is a rumble in brighton tonite, its the RUBs vs the DINKs

Spend too many years riding too many different bikes. Riding is ridin, everybody has their brand loyalties. Just ask the Jeep crew about chevy trucks sometime. I dont know that we all need to get along and sing cume-by-ya but we all need MORE riding time. Gotta go, the road is out there

I think the point has been missed. I was asked to lead a "RIDE" to DC. So I picked a route that would be a great ride. The key word being RIDE. When I got the phone call...."Is anybody else going to trailer their bike?" It RUBbed me the wrong way. 50 is a crooked as a dogs hind leg and not the best road to drag a trailer. I don't care how much someone rides or doesn't ride or how much money they make. Just don't ask me to do something and then bitch when I take charge and do it the way I see fit.

This is one reason I turned in my Director's patch for HOG. Everyone wants YOU to lead rides or organize events for them to take part in and then...... no one shows up or you get the "You should have done it this way" crap.

Thats another part of my "case of the ass" I have been promoting this ride for a few months and I have 3 thats right 3 people confirmed..........

Boy the old trailer tread hit a nerve.

I would love to go to DC, I can't, busy being Dad. Does that make me a poser???? Nope makes me a family man with responsibilities.

I can only envy those of you with enough freedom to go on all these trips. March Badness, The Dragon, Iron Butt, Rolling Thunder, Homecoming, Track Days, WV Badness.

Some day....

I keep flip-flopping between Harleys and sport bikes. I get the RUB thing, because HD riders who give me the "I'm a meany on my machiny" stare when I'm on a sport bike can't wait to point to the ground if I pass on a Harley. Usually these folks don't ride much, but bought a Harley to play badass whenever their boss lets them out of their cubicle. But it isn't just that brand, or just motorcycling. There's fakers in everything who cover their tracks by going overboard. You should see some of the beautiful and expensive mountain bikes that never see the finish line of a race.

And conversely, when the weather is really nasty or the road truly runs in a wasteland, Harleys are almost the only bikes you'll see (besides an occasional FZR 600 limping past with bad trans bearings). They are ridden by the whole spectrum, not just RUBs.

Mikel, it's good to see your name popping up again. it was great to meet you at Springfast, and i hope you're back in the wind again.

Sadly, funds have been unavailable to make it back into the wind, however, I will be taking part of the Can-Am Spyder test rides here in Phoenix this weekend.

Jerry, you emphasized my point about what type of people are the RUBs in my community.
What RR describes are not RUBs, they are a$$hats. I think it would be hilarious to find out, from reading his first post once again, that his "interpretation" of anyone else bringing trailers turns out to be whether any other riders will be bringing bike TOWED trailers and not bikes being towed on trailers.

first off, i sent Roadrailer a PM last night offering my apology for being such an "arrogant dickhead" in my comments to him on this thread. haven't checked my e-mail yet this morning to see if there's a response.

Wolfridgerider, i've organized a TON of m/c-related gigs over the years, and it IS frustrating to put a lot of effort into a ride and have no one show up.

in order to maintain what little sanity i possess, i quickly adopted the mindset that it wasn't about quantity, it was about quality, and made sure that even if only three riders showed up for something i'd organized, they were gonna have the times of their lives.

i'm sure you have the same philosophy, and i wish my schedule was such that Denise and i could join you and your friends. we moved here (SW Virginia) SPECIFICALLY for the riding opportunities, but we're still getting "settled" in our new/old house and not able to unplug from reality as much as we'd like yet.

DBird, the front rotors on the RK are FINALLY coming around, barely anymore chrome showing, and most of the farking high and low spots gone. : )

Mikel, sorry to hear you're not riding yet, but i assume it's only a matter of time (and healing)?

you're right, of course, asshats are asshats, and they take all forms.

some are even riders, and that's a shame.

when i ride i make it a point to wave to EVERYBODY on two wheels, even scooter pilots, and i always try to wave first. doing so always makes me smile, and i figure i'm doing my small part to break down the idea that anyone riding a pearl white and sparkling chrome $20K Harley MUST be a RUB.

i ain't a RUB, i'm just someone who loves (and lives) to ride.

i am also, unfortunately, sometimes an arrogant dickhead. Roadrailer, i'm sorry.

Sounds like my kind of guy. I have always said a true friend is someone who will help you dispose of the body.

Now to the real subject. The places I ride I rarely encounter "non riders." Maybe I am lucky.

In the city I am more often then not to run into someone who's bike is there main transportation (my self included).
When I travel out of town, I am more likely to run into a BMW or HD with 100,000+ miles on it.

The only non riders I see as of late are young punk (as in punk rock) kids on their late 70's/early 80's UJM cafe racers. Although most of these bike never leave the city limits, I admire their owners. The creativity with the workmanship is amazing.

>>>i've organized a TON of m/c-related gigs over the years

That's a damned accurate statement and some really good ones!

Asshats are only asshats when they stay that way . . . the internet, in concert with a subject we are all passionate about, sometimes deals us a quick lick working at light speed. Over the years, I've typed 9,439 things that, when lucidity arrived a moment after striking the ENTER key didn't appear so bright in retrospect.

I'm fairly certain that sometime around 340 A.D. someone invented the words "I'm sorry" after a premonition that the internet would centuries later make them necessary.

For what it's worth, I've known both Ferris and the Lovely D much longer than anyone here and can offer assurances that they are both capable and rabid motorcyclist.

Denise, along with Lorraine, were the first gals I knew who could ride the twisties of California with the same skill and passion as the boys.

Serious riders both of them but on the larger scheme of thing, based on knowing them years before Badweb existed, damn fine folks.

That's my PERSONAL OPINION. Of course, I used to be Ferris' riding instructor, until he pushed me off a cliff, so I may be biased.

I apologize for being so callous to your RUB trouble, Roadrailer. I don't know what went down, or who did what, so it was irresponsible and just plain wrong for me to make light of the issues you've had in the past.

I was not excellent to you, and I believe that really is a recommendation we should all follow... not just here, but everywhere.

Ride safe, man.

The Antique rides out at Vashon are calling me and I need a bike over 20 years old to get it done. Will be a RatRod Cafe when she is done. Looks like it is ANATONE for chili on the Memorial day weekend. The twisties are amazing that side of the state along the canyon.

Boy, ain't that the truth. I seem to recall one fine day in 2002 when JH, aka Ferris Bueller at the time, saved the day during the All California BRAG Touring Adventure by leading a group of rabid Buellers around a series of his favorite backroads that left us cheering when we came to the rest stop! That is one of my most cherished motorcycling moments. Thank you, Jerry.

Mikel, I too hope you are back on two again soon!
I thought this thread would be toooo boring to look at until I saw who all was posting.
I took a peek and DAMN I could have sworn it was JANUARY!
Does it matter who thinks what? Someone's always going to hate so who cares, it's THEIR poison to live with.
Not many Buells here but they are getting known and respected now. Still its more from the cruiser types ( RUBs to HA) than the rice but getting there.
I ride for my own enjoyment, to do my own thing, somedays it's the 'bolt and hard corners or the tuber and cruise or the KLR and putt and bump. But I try to see that everyone around me enjoys it also as it's at least self serving.
If it wasn't for the cost I'd have a "poser" (cruiser) bike too as I like many of them also. I can't dress the part tho as that's a bit much for me! But I'm just as likely to ride the "Barbie" KLR next time just for the reaction. I've seen plenty of posers on sport bikes.
Pinks??? Haven't heard that one.
Packing heat while riding? Big deal, I have to remind myself that I'm supposed to be packing. I'm respectful to all. I've been around enough to know that little is what it seems and tigers and bears are where you least expect them.
I guess I'm a (-R)UB, but I don't truly belong to anybody's group except my friends and who I'm riding with at the moment.

Yep, Ferris you sure wussed out trailering the Blue Nuke Road Couch to Springfast! But then I wouldn't have had that BIG blurry target to safely follow across that cold early morning high desert. I think I only made it without stopping just to stubbornly prove to you that I wasn't totally insane to not be trucking it myself.

I didn't buy my Buell to tick away the miles, the miles don't matter as long as I have a smile on my face.

Jerry, I know where you are, and one day I hope to formally join the RVFL when we come to hooliganize your neck of the woods.(hope it's o.k. if I trailer). Maybe around mid September??

I've rode my clip-on and rearset clad S1 from Western NY to Central Florida. There's been several, several hundred mile rides. While it does sometimes suck to do long hauls on a bike with sportish ergonomics (especially with the wife on back) I made a choice long ago not to put my car on the road.

That said I'd never ride it to a track day and wouldn't go out of state on it for a thrill ride. It's mainly a short-range commuter, and my primary transportation. When I can afford another bike I'd like to be able to use it as a dedicated track toy.

I'm sooooooooooooooooo upset because I would really like to be a R.U.B. so I could afford a new Harley Road king. My dealer has a new Pearl White one sitting on the floor and I think I've about got the seat broken-in since I sit on it every time I'm there, but since I'm not rich (damm), I'll just have to settle for being a U.B. and continue riding my Ulysses. Someday though, I'll own a Harley (when I can afford it), but will also keep my Uly.

Tank, you're welcome any time. be advised me 'n D almost always work Saturdays (we make an extra 15% to do so), and we really haven't had a chance to learn the local roads yet. back in Cali i could take you on a 300-mile loop thru the Sierras that would absolutely wear your tires out (ask Unibear...), and altho there are plenty of roads like that here in the mountains of SW Virginia, i don't know where a lot of them are yet.

maybe that'll be our "mission" when you come up. : )

I'm sooooooooooooooooo upset because I would really like to be a R.U.B. so I could afford a new Harley Road King.
