If your not going to ride it!!! I go to DC every year for Rolling Thunder. For the last five years people have asked me to lead a ride. SOOOOOOO this year I say I will do it. I can't believe the amount of people that think 400 miles in one day is like climbing Mt.Everest. I had a phone call last night "Is anybody else going to trailer their bike?" GIVE ME A BREAK!!! SUCK IT UP AND RIDE!

I almost forgot...... It may just rain..... GOD FORBID!!! I can't ride in the rain!!

I don't understand it either.

I have a 2 day weekend this memorial day! That is such a rare thing for me, I'm actually planning a 1000 mile ride for it. I have a bike, and 2 days in a row off? Why the heck not!

On a positive note, my dad and 3 friends are riding to Rolling thunder this weekend. I would LOVE to go, but I have to work Friday and Saturday. If they were staying till Monday I would ride out Sunday morning and meet them there. But they're coming back Sunday, so I'm probably going to ride down to the Dragon again.

You can tell they're hard core bikers because it says "Live To Ride" on their trailers.

Well said Sanchez! We had on guy that would put his bike on a trailer every year. Drag his bike to DC and unload it. Go to his room, get all bikered up. and when I say bikered up I'm talking about the leather jacket with jean vest with "old" patches all over it, the goofy hat made of jeans with pins all over it. On anybody else I would say OK thats you and thats cool, BUT...... Didn't you just yank that Harley off that trailer? One of my friends would always ask him "Whats wrong with your bike?" "Are you OK?" It was always fun to mess with him.

I had some business last week 180 miles away that required my presence, but only for a short amount of time. Instead of taking a car... what the heck, I took my bike. Got rained on, got cold, then got hot again, almost got a speeding ticket, smoked a few cigars, ate road food, met some nice people, accomplished my task, then I ate fancy and rode back home and recorded a 400 mile round trip.

All that and 50 mpg too... a grand adventure!

I rode to Panama City for a bike Rally a couple of weekends ago... I think it was 500+ round trip. I enjoyed the ride there more than the damn rally. Riding parade down the beach about killed my left hand.
I was passed on the way down there by a GSXR.... on a trailer. But then I can understand that since it's not meant for long hauls.
But long hauls are what harleys are all about.

My katana riding friends are having a rally at Deal's Gap this summer.
They're going to trailer their bikes there (1000+ mile round trip).
I wanna go but if I do I want to ride there and back.

I thank God that the guy I bought my bike from thought that 400 miles a day was like climbing Everest.

I don't want to give the impression I'm ready for an Iron Butt. If I know I'm going to ride agressively, I always trailer my motorcycle.

I have put my bike on a trailer once and I will do it again when I do a track day. The point I am trying to make is all the "I'm a hardcore biker" types that have a hard time riding until the gas tank NEEDS a refill.

not all Harley riders are posers.

not all Buell riders are the next coming of Nicky Hayden or Rick Morrison.

if someone wants to trailer their bike to a gig, get all "bikerly" (funny!) and parade around, why would anyone else care?

i've got light years to go before i become a grown up, well-adjusted, "normal" member of society, but i long ago stopped judging others riders solely on the level of their "bikerness."

if you even LIKE motorcycles, even if there's never been one in your garage, you're ok in my book. any level of interest beyond that is just a bonus.

ride to lean,

Care? I don't really care if you ride your motorcycle around in nothing more than silk boxers with chili peppers on them and cowboy boots (saw that last year), but these guys who try to act all badass -- yet are so paranoid that their precious ass jewelry might get wet or dirty -- are hilarious, and worthy or a little mockery, IMO. They have the right to act in whatever way they want, and I have the right to laugh at them.

I've never understood why some folks are so quick to defend the RUBs. In five years of motorcycling I've been laughed at, insulted, flipped off, spit at, and even threatened by some of these guys. If they can dish it out, they should be able to take it occasionally, as well.

i ain't a RUB, so i can't speak for them.

i AM a Harley rider, tho, and i speak for myself when i say that i grow weary of the Harley stereotyping.

i ride short distances, long distances, fast, slow, and everything in between on my Road King, and the moment someone starts judging my character by the level of my "bikerness" is the moment they start showing the level of their insecurity.

you've been been laughed at, insulted, flipped off, spit at, and even threatened by Harley riders?

wow, you must hang with a tough crowd. : )

you say you don't care, yet someone who doesn't meet your standard of bikerness is worthy of your mockery?

that's an interesting stance, and might explain all the laughter, insults, flipped birds, spitting and threats.

just a thought.

Chad and I are going to trailer down to TWO in two weeks, set up base camp, and ride Suches and the Gap. The advantage for us is that we save our tires for the "good" roads, avoid boring slab, arrive fresh, and don't have to bungee cord coolers and Piggly Wiggly sacks to the backs of our bikes and try to navigate the Gap.

Now, I can just strap on the bike just what I need for the day ride and leave everything else locked in the truck.

What I think folks find funny is the "biker" attitude without the miles to back it up.

If you want to get duded up and have 500,000 miles under your belt, I think you've earned it, trailer or no.

If you have a seven year old bike with less than 10,000 miles on it, you should probably opt for riding gear in a nice terry cloth.

Preferably baby blue.

I'm not a long distance rider. The most I usually put in is 200 in a day and the majority of my riding is commuting, around town and for work. But I can understand if you're short on time and have to push a few hundred miles to get somewhere that it's safer to take the truck and trailer.

}Plus, I've ridden with a few people whose skills are not good enough for hours on the highway and the fatigue that ensues. They're better off trailering it.

I have trailered and rode to many places, really just depends on what I am gonna do when I get there and how much crap I gotta take. If I had a Road Glide or the like I would ride more places further but the Ole 12R just aint so good for more than 600 miles or so in a day.

Oh, and if I had not crashed twice in the last year I would be pushin 50k on the odo in 3 years.

that works out to a little over 1400 miles a year.

i'm willing to bet there are a lot of Buellers on BadWeb that are lucky to average that kind of yearly mileage.

let the mockery begin.

I've never, ever said anything to anyone about their choice of motorcycle or riding style. Their choice, and not my place to say anything (not that I feel compelled to). That's more than I can say about some RUBs I've encountered.

But I do think it's comical when some dude attempting to be a "rugged individual" puts on his costume, gathers up a group of his indentically dressed, individualist friends, and spends more time trying to look cool than actually riding. It's laughable. Or huge caravans of trailers heading to a "motorcycle" event. I'm not going to share my opinion with him (because it's none of my business), but I'm snickering in my helmet as I pass him. So what?

He's entitled to do as he sees fit, and I'm entitled to my opinion of it.

I've rode bikes and hauled bikes to ride. I've rode more in one day than a lot of people do in a month. I ride more on vacation than most do in a year. All those posers and whores spend a ton of money on parts and services and make them more widely available to those like me who really ride. It's all good.

I wish it was me, at least it would make more sense.

The reality is, tough, that I live in a fairly affluent suburb, in the South, within a mile of a HD dealership. Translation: RUB Central.
