Cranked the Uly up today and started the commute into work. I have about 45 miles on a previously full tank and the Fuel Lamp came on. It would stay lit and then go off but in no order, purely random.

I stopped and filled up the tank to make sure and the lamp went off. Within about 5 miles it came back on and the fuel trip meter kicked on.

Anyone got a clue what is happening?

just a guess....but faulty fuel sensor. Same thing would happen on my truck, except I had a gage and could watch the needle go from 3/4 to dead empty, then I would hit a bump and it would come back for a while.

Dodgy or damp connection, check multiplugs.

You clean it with a jet-wash?

or been riding in the rain lately?

Mine did the same after a bad rain. Have not had it happen again in 4000 miles.
