I got a problem. My tank is at a bar and its 140 gallon's. I had 3 Oscars that are about 14-15 inches long and 1 Manguese that about a foot. Even have a little South African thats about 7 inches that survives some how. Today my favorite of the 3 Oscars died. Theres my problem I need a replacement and am afraid to put another Oscar in because of a major fight. I'm looking at other species that will co-exsist but don't know what yet. Any hobbyist hear on the BadWeb??

if you could round up one that is similar size they might bicker a bit but usually get over it. i have had a few oscars. i have a couple 55 gallon and a 46 curve glass one. a pacu would usually do ok also, but then again anything you put in there will need to be atleast close to as big to survive.

I am into African Cichlids.
The Oscar is a South American Cichlid.
The following site:
Cichlids: South American
Should have some helpful information.

It states an Oscars Ideal tank mates include similar sized:
* Loaches
* Other South American Cichids
* Plecos
* Scavenger Catfish
* Sharks
* Similar sized fish (miscellaneous fish)

Another Oscar is a NO GO the one Oscar will kill him or it quite quickly.

Stealth,I used have the same tank filled with various Africans but it was time for change. I have one that is still there just because he was so tiny I couldn't catch him....so I said a prayer and hoped he lived...he did.lol I was just thinking maybe a medium sized Arowana or maybe a couple Jack Dempsey's.

Cichlids are a tough fish.

Both of the breeds listed below look really cool:
Firemouth Cichlid

Blue Ram

I've got a 12" channel cat bumping around in my 55 gallon (who needs to be exchanged at my local pond now that it's warmer out), and he and the 10" bass get a little rowdy on Saturday nights and rough up the bluegill, but other then that they all seem to do pretty well.

Get one of your patron fishermen to go to a local pond and catch you about a 1 or 2 pound bass or catfish. They both eat the ciclid food fine and seem to do well. Could not keep the crappies alive though...

The bass is a lot of fun. A lot like an oscar, but a lot less fragile.

Nice BadS1!
I have always been partial to Pseudotropheus.

Those Oscars are huge!
The bar and the tank both look great!

Hope to make it up to see them in person one day.

That Arrowana looks pretty cool.

If you like bass you may consider the Peacock Bass:

The pic does not do it much justice.
A local shop has one in their display tank and it is one of the prettiest fish I have ever seen.

Stealth,

A shop here has a breeding pair. To what they say its maybe the only one's in the country to what they said. Anyways I agree they are just spectacular to look at. But they also said very hard to raise. Die easily I guess.

Bad:

Years ago, I had a roommate with 2 big Oscars and a big Arowana, as well a few other, smaller fish (couple of Firemouth cichlids and a Jack Dempsey, if I remember right) in a 55 gal tank. They got along OK. The Oscars were the size of my hand, maybe 7-8" and the Arowana was probably 15-18"--he couldn't turn around in the tank without touching the sides. The Arowana had a bad habit of jumping out of the tank, even though it was covered. That was ultimately its undoing...
