To all who are or know any union workers in New York that travel through the village of Harriman, You Are Being Profiled. So far it has been carpenters, local 608 and electricians local 6.
My brother is in 608 and got a ticket for doing 34 in a 30, he has a sticker for 608 on his car. After he got the ticket he was stopped again by another cop that told him to remove the sticker from his window because he is being profiled along with local 6. I would imagine that any vehicles with union stickers are getting pulled over. So be ware.

Damn Union gangs.

Why, Hammeroid, would someone profile a union carpenter or electrician?

WTF, you mean there is a higher percentage of Union carpenters and electricians driving drunk then say, laborers or painters?

Might be a method to spot out of towners or people who are too busy to fight a ticket. It's common place for revenue departments to pick easy prey.

Most of the people they are targeting live in the area. I would say that anyone with a union sticker is getting hit.

In the eyes of the powers that be unionism is seen as a form of communism-see "Grapes Of Wrath".It is also why America is being infiltrated by so called 'illegal alliens',they`re not illegal at all, they`re 'undocumented',They want them to be here,to be non-union,to work cheap, etc.Raise Unholy hell anytime your singled out for being a union member-the wealthy have plenty of protections working in their favor-its` about time working people gain back some power of their own.I`m not a commy or pinko, all for free enterprise just pissed that the pendulum has swung so far the other way-benifiting the few who have the dollars to buy our government!!!

Yeah? Drive a Honda in Detroit and see who is the hunter and who is the victim. : |

I don't know what the story is in this town, but it might be that the folks in Harriman have some beef with union people.

I think there is the belief that most unions work for their own benefit to the detriment of the company. "It's us or them!"

Works great until the company goes out of business.

(See Ford, GM, Chrysler)

?
I know two Harriman cops (socially) , I asked them about this, off the record, socially, and they laughed and said it was the first they'd heard of it.
One of them i knew long before he was on the job, and he'd have little to gain by lying about it.
Maybe the officer was f*cking with the guy, for giggles?

Nope- Harriman is one jurisdiction/muni.
Woodbury spills over into harriman, but that's about it.

Thats what he was told and it didn't seem like a joke to him. Maybe it's just a few cops, why else would one give him a ticket and then another give him a heads up. The whole thing is fishy. Maybe it's a bunch of rookies trying to bring their numbers up and figure a good way to rack up a few dui's is hitting constructions workers. Some of them might just blow the limit. No matter which way you look at it, 34 in a 30 is utter B.S., but does give probable cause. Either way, I felt a warning would be a good idea.

Different shift commanders having different goals?

Could have just been that on that one day it was a goal to hit union workers. Captain on his way to work was eating breakfast at the local donut shop. A local union guy punks out the cop for eating donuts. The big ole cop then uses his power to get back once his shifts starts. Big example but you never know what the intentions are::::::

Bias does play a role. Even if I was a cop I'd give a ticket to a SUV driver before a Buell rider.. Which is why I am not a cop and have respect for the few good cops there are.

As a New Yorker all I can ad is Town of Wallkill PD was busted for profiling blondes. They were even handing out a baseball type card.Glad I pay my taxes.Interesting that there has been all kinds of shootings, robberies etc in Middletown, but the Sheriffs and Town of Wallkill decide to do there DWI checks after the speedway opened.I suppose its a better income geneator than crime fighting....but I digress.

Bear in mind that Walkill and Middletown are two separate municipalities/departments. Stats have the DWIs/collisions leaving the track at pretty high numbers in the summer- (wallkill/mechanicstown)...more DWI fatalities than shooting fatalities, thereabouts.
...also- Wallkill's ex-chief Coscetti was replaced years ago, and things are going much better there.
Middletown is, technically, a city with it's own city-peculiar problems, which are handled, with varying degrees of grace, by it's own force.
One of my very best friends from childhood runs Narco in m'town, and ride-alongs with his crew always prove entertaining.

Tramp I have to agree with what you're saying. It has been better with the new Chief.I saw a collision in the drive-in at the races about 3 yrs ago.The guy was blasted, but that didnt top the guy who ran across the track during a modified heat from the drive-in.The cops hauled him away.
My bigger complaint is with the sheriffs department if they are gonna do road patrol go into Middletown proper. That place is scary at night.

cyclone, when are you gonna ride with us! we have a pretty good group.

sean,
thanks for the call, the bike is a one-off due to some unusual pre sale circumstances. the problems the bike had were dealer based(dealer no longer exists), had nothing to do with buell.

Like in spades when somebody breaks a spade, somebody broke DUI's. Yesterday, I think, in Fayetteville, AR, the University sponsors a "safe bus" to keep people from getting hit/hurt/killed by drunk drivers. Anyway, it was hit by a drunk driver and knocked over. Would that be irony, or just a terrible coinkidink?

Sweet, I'd like to see it. My riding got cut short this weekend. Ran through Harriman a few times. Checked out that street I was telling you about. They need to do some work on it. I bottomed out halfway through. Lots of loose gravel and pot holes. It's bad enough where they may actually repave it. Here's hoping.
