Well I just got back from the Slimey Crud Run. I saw a lot of Buellers and got to speak to many of you. I showed up a bit late and met up with some guys (Kurt and Kurt) from Chicago. (sorry if I misspelled your names) One of gthe Kurts rode with my small group (Dad, me, and a friend). This was the first time I got to ride the area since last year I lost my stator on the way down and had to ride home on just battery power.

This year I found out my navigations skills sucked! I missed the first turn I wanted to make and ended up in the middle of a Harley biker gang. My group rode with these guys for awhile, and they rode pretty good. We did some twisties and the front two guys of the gang rode side by side the whole way. I needed most of the road. Later we broke off from them and tried to go a different route. Well I screwed the up too. So I just found another group of bikes and followed them.We made it to Leland and had a brat and a soda. We watched a few guys do some wheelies and burnouts. Some guy did a burnout with a F350 deisel???

As we left some dumb kid flew by us do somewhere around 100 mph. About 3 miles up the street we saw the same dumb kid pulled over by the sheriff. He deserved it, he was riding way over the conditions. We pulled up to a gas station in Prarie Du Sac and I saw another bueller. I told him if he was heading back to Leland be carefull, there was a cop on the highway. He said he knew and went on to tell me how he pull a guy out of a field earlier today. The kid had a neck injury and couldn't feel his legs. Kind of a somber note to end the day on. My group then had a nice ride back to Appleton.

On a side note, I stopped by Appleton HD this morning, but no other Buellers were there. I left aty 7:55

We were planning on riding up from Waterloo but I got called into work and the storm scared off the rest. The storm looked a lot worse on the radar than it turned out to be.

We were there. The wife has been fighting an inner ear infection all week, and didn't feel like making the trek to Leland. So we turned back after we walked around Pine Bluff and snapped a few pics. We had a really good "Buell parking" lot going over at the bar across the street.

We even had Greg Avello join the Brew City group on our way up there. pretty cool having a Bona fide Buell racing guy with us. Felt weird, ME leading that man on a ride... : ) Greg is a nice guy, and a class act. Even if he does ride a Kawasaki 636 on the street : ) The wind SUCKED. Especially doing 90MPH down the beltline to make up some time, and just to keep up with traffic.

Saw some of the Chicago group. Saw Wes Orloff for the 2nd time in two days. Met a couple of other Buellers from Madison. One with a REALLY sweet silver '97 S1.

BTW, Koz, one word for us directionally challenged folks... GPS. It helps me out immensely. It makes it look like I actually know where I'm going : ) I plumb the sound from the GPS in to my autocom, so i don't even have to ever look at a map, or the screen. IMHO, safer than having a map in the tank bag.

First Sunday in May,
First Sunday in October.

(Which apparently also coincides with house painting.)

Well .. I hadn't planned on leading but .. our group went from 9 or so to 3 by time we left Pine Bluff .... lots of fun .. by time we made it to Leland - most people were gone ...

As Matt said .. 450 tire shredding miles ... we were out riding for basically 12 hours ... and let me tell ya - I am tired today !!

Didn't help I'm sure the weekend I had been having before the Crud Run ... I'd be willing to bet I had the most ... we'll say interesting, weekend of anyone who made the run ...

Friday - Dan Bilansky's truck gets dropped off for detailing ... give him the forks from my M2 (X1 forks) to replace the seals .. he gets them done that day so I can use the engine lift to assist with doing the steering neck bearings on the S1 (getting ready for the Crud Run) .. get halfway with that Friday night before I fall asleep (about 2AM) ... Saturday morning - finish the steering neck bearings .. finish Bilansky's truck ... go to load my S1 on his truck (with his permission) and deliver the truck to him at Hal's and then unload my bike so I can ride home after the ride in bike show/open house that was going on ... Well - I decided to test ride the S1 to make sure the bearing replacement went good ..

Here is where my weekend really got interesting ....

During my test ride - BOOM - then exhaust exiting on my right leg, slow down and the bike shuts down ... WTF just happened ... get off, take a look - HOLY F$%# - I just blew a head gasket ... push the bike 4 blocks or so back home ...

Hal's has the gasket ...
Off to Hal's (around 3PM or so )to deliver the truck and pick up the gasket ... get back home around 5:30 .. check tools needed .. 2 runs to Sears for a torque wrench and a 12 point 1/2 inch socket (I had a 6 point .. but a 12 is needed for the head screws) ...

here is about 9PM after running around town to get all I needed, and taking the bike down to this stage ... found other problems that I fixed as well .. (had spare intake seals for the M2 that I used)

here is around midnight - almost done !! (I re-sprayed my header wrap while it was off ... )

ALL DONE !!!! test ran it around 1AM and all seemed ok ...

Next morning , Matt (Carparts009), Greg (Mxer83 - from IL) and myself left to meet more of our group at Hal's ... everything is good !! ... another 10 miles from there was a gas stop out on 18 to pick up the rest of our group... OH SH!T .. oil is seeping from what appeared to be the base gasket ... we'll keep an eye on it -- luckily that is all it did - was seep ... turned out to be the pushrod tube bases leaking ... no problem ...

450 hard ridden miles and she held up fine .. can't say the same for our tires ...

here is Greg's (his tire is worse than it looks - look at mine - his has the same wear marks not pictured)

Matt's

and mine (I swear there was tread at the start of the day - maybe not alot - but some - the last 100 miles just ate whatever was left- )

Thanks to everyone for a great time !!

Andy,

I figured you would be there. I was meeting my group at 8:30 so I took off. I actually drove by the dealership at 7:30 and no one was there so I rode up to the gas station on CB and bought a coffee. I then rode back to the dealership with the coffee in one hand. I was hoping you might show up so I could invite you to ride with my group.
