I'm trying to buy another Buell, an '06 CityX. Progressive, who I have my Harley insurance with, are actively trying to break me over the counter and load me like a shotgun to the tune of $1800 a year just for the Buell. This is after the multi-bike discount.
Got any suggestions? If this is the best I can do, I won't be getting the bike.

Thanks,

Bob

There is a lot of confuision with motor cycles, one is afraid to say any thing least he will be thought of as a full grown lier. however I pay only $400.00 per for both my bikes. 1. buell lighting 2. V-Rod. I have been with GEICO for more than 10 yrs.

Geeze, even in bloated CA I'm pay'n less than $500 a year for full coverage, from State Farm. Max liability, max deductibles.
Ironically my wife's Honda Fit, costs me only a few bucks more, for the same coverage.

Oh hell, I believe you. Really, I do. But I'm afraid to call GEICO coz they're the ones that took a loss on the last one. =(
"Oh yeah, Mr. Bob, we remember you, Your coverage will be two buhzilyun dollars every 6 months. Have a nice day!" =)

Jackson, MS? That sounds a little unreasonable. I have Progressive covering just liability and comprehensive (fire & theft) on an '06 Lightning Long and a '99 BMW K1200LT and I'm paying less than $1,000 a year.

By the way, I have good news: I saved over $500 a year by NOT switching to GEICO...

I live on Long Island, in New York, by the way.

Insurance.
It's like competitive bids. Get a bid from the usual suspects, State Farm, Nationwide, Farmers, etc. Check with an independent as well. You and I are about the same age and if you don't have an atrocious driving record, you should obtain insurance for less than 1/3 of what Progressive has quoted you.

Pay only liability and don't let the bike out of your sight.

Geez, I paid $310 last year for full coverage on my 2004 XB12R and the wife's 1992 BMW K75S. We added a 1996 R850R to the stable and it still didn't go over $400 a year...that's for THREE bikes.

Gotta love Dairyland insurance.

Dairyland Insurance was the cheapest for me. $750 annually on an 05 XB12Scg. My first year was $900.

I have Sentry (Dairyland) and pay $87 per year for liability only on my '01 M2L. I live in Vermont and am over 50 (well, physically...). They were the cheapest I found AND they didn't require a credit check. The whole credit check thing just pisses me off even though I have good credit. It has nothing to do with my driving record and I pay cash for my insurance. That didn't seem to matter to Geico!

I have Progressive, they suck ass! Costs me almost $2000 a year for my Harley, my wife's Harley & my Buell. Then when I crashed they wouldn't cover it because my Harley is "custom" and they don't cover "custom bikes". But they sure took the money all year! I say get away from them! Unfortunately, I can't get away from them because other insurance companies say "well, you have this crash on your record. . ." WTF! ! !

Ok, so I run through the book trying to find a reputable insurance company that's not robbing people. After quotes from various places wanting between $750 and $1400, I call the peeps that handle the insurance on my house. Lady there quotes me $545 for the year. Sold.
She faxes me some papers to sign ans you won't believe who the insurance is through: Progressive. The same people who were quoting me $1800 a year just this morning. WTF?

I'm picking the bike up tomorrow!

Were you getting a quote from a broker?
The brokers are sales men and work on 100% comishion.

Do your shopping from the computer. Let Progressive do the work. Progressive.com, work up the quote, then do the rate comparison, and they show you the best one to use. Thats how I found Farmers and I'm saving tons on my insurance.
