Will a rust bucket '86 Yamaha Virago 1000 beat my 06 XB12R in the straights? Top end? 1/8 mile drag? 1/4 mile drag? TWISTIES? This guy at my shop swears up and down he will wax me in every event. I told him to lay off of the crack pipe. LOL, someone correct me if i'm wrong.

I work in a split shop ( 2 business's owned by the same person) the 'other' half is a BMW/Ducati/Benelli dealership...they found out right quick that unless they're on top end bikes, playing with the Buell on the tight, twisty roads here will leave them looking at my tail-lights right quick ... so much for the spec sheet racing.

I'd say No. If it is totally stock, it couldnt take a Buell XB.

Personally - I'd put $50 on the counter and say 'You can say go, dickweed.'

But that's just me.

Could he beat you?
We all know the answer.

Tell him your Dad could beat up his Dad.

Not much tuning gear available for that motor either, I looked at buying a Yamaha BT1100 Bulldog, before I bought the M2, it's got basically the same lump as the Virago 1100, & I found out the most I'd be able to screw out of the motor would be around 80 horses.
Add to the fact a Virago is more cruiser stylie with a chewing-gum frame & GEAH brakes; I'd say the guy is just trying to wind your clock (& succeeding too)

I know it sounds funny to say it... but I think the ONLY place he may have a chance is in the deep canyons.

Only because I have no idea about the skill of either rider but any schmoe can twist a throttle.

I agree with M1combat. Put me on a Yamaha YZF-R1 and Valentino Rossi on a Suzuki Burgmann 400 and there's no doubt in my mind Rossi would wax me in the canyons...

Call him out, what do have to lose? Find a road with little or no traffic and go for it.

As said before, its more rider than machine. Be careful, if the road is to tight it could be difficult to pass.

Sorry to say, but the fact that you are doubting yourself on this at all, tells me yes, the other guy has a "chance", and that the XB12R is probably too much bike for you.

Bradley.. if you still work where you worked when we first communicated.. YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!!!

Hey, if you're going to take him on.. or any Buell is.. Call me.. Please.. I'll either go riding with you guys.. or.. take the pictures!

Facts as I understand them. You (me and a bunch of us here) on a Buell. He on a stock, older Virago cruiser. Twisties? Hills? Drags? Let's see how they stack up.

Base HP out of the box - Buell

Brakes - Buell

Lean angle - Buell

Weight - Buell

So, looking at the obvious advantages listed above, equal riders, the Buell will, out go, out stop, out lean, and still weigh less then the Yamaha on any given day. And Thus Endeth The Lesson.

I should come out there and meet this guy (you say he works in the shop? Please tell me he's not a wrench...)

Yes guys. i'm not doubting myself at all. i wanted to race for pinks. i still work here at the harley shop. unfortunately, he does to. his is stock, mine jardine, race ecm and k&n. my chicken strip is like....none. you can check my pics on my myspace. the link is on my profile here. my dad could whop his, i think his is deceased. but i could take him too. he's just a fag and is irritating the crap outta me. the thing that irritates me, is, he gets off at making other people pissed. i don't like that guy....

No matter what the argument never run for pinks with such unequal values. If you screw up in any way he could take a valuable much newer bike, you only get to win a piece of used up history.

He sounds like a lonely a-hole with no life tough enough to run the oral spout and jealous of what others have and likely the type that would resort to vandalizing what he can't have. Take him out, buy him a sandwich and a beer he could turn into a friend. Or.....poke him in the eye with a sharp stick and run like hell!

If he won't run you for the fun of it, he will likely back down with BS and excuses at the last minute even if you did get him lined up with a title in hand.

Don't let this guy get under your skin. He can't piss you off if you won't let him. There are two people in this tough relationship, and you are one of them. Stand up and control your half without letting anything happen that will cause regret later. This certainly won't be resolved by racing him. Even if you win, he and his mouth are still going to be there.
