hi, took my S2 to work today for the first time...some futher mucker, knocked it over trying to park and ran...found it laying on it's side. Sounds like someone ran into it trying to park in your space? I've read of others having problems like this and the resultant advice to park at the back of the space so people see it in the parking space before they run over your bike. Would this have helped in your situation? I rarely use a car parking space for my bike, but there are some places I may like to go that won't allow me to park at the end of a row or designated bike parking area. Let us know what happened on this and how you think it could be avoided. Sorry to hear about your bike. That's a real bummer. | ||

I can honestly say I have caused damage to someone else's vehicle only once. I opened my truck door in a parking lot on a windy day. I wasn't paying attention and the wind yanked the door out of my hand and dinged the car beside me. The owner wasn't around, so instead of driving off, I left them a note apologizing along with my name and telephone number with an offer to pay for the damages. It's the right thing to do. Period. What's wrong with people today? Even if you can't afford to pay for the damages, you could offer to do some work for them until the debt is paid. Maybe a summer of yard-mowing would settle the debt. But it's all about "ME" and screw you these days, right? My guy was so pleased that I left my number and apologized profusely when he called, he let me off the hook anyway. It was the respect I showed for his property and my taking ownership of a debt I owed him because of the damage caused by my negligence that paid my debt to him. I'm sorry to hear about what happened to your bike. I know what finding your bike like you did must have made you feel about your fellow New Yorkers. The bad part is he wasn't the only one. What about all the people that must have witnessed it? Not one stepped forward? At least now you know one honest person. Cheer up. | ||

I got my taste of NewYorkers with a buddy from Jersey. Having never been that far north untill I sent to his house over a weekend. He ideal of getting out of a parking spot was too actualy touch the bumper of the car in front then back up and repeat as needed until he was able to get out of the spot! Keep me in the South! | ||

The nerve of these folks! ! Some badwebbers will recall and if I had time I'd dig around and find it, the picture I posted not long ago . . . a double parked van with "how soon is "in just a minute" •••••••?" spray painted on the side of it. . . . It's the greatest city in the world. . . I love it. . . but it had IT'S rules. .. you either respect them or get chewed up my the machine . . I've learned to live with $200-$300 in parking tickets a month . . eventually they go on Henrik's light bill.  I lived in Kansas for 44 years and curse that I didn't find NYC 20 years ago. But . . parking is an art. | ||

Any city NYC the boroughs jersey city hoboken newark any of them if you don't put it in a garage you should be ridin a rat bike cause it is gonna get whacked and smacked its just life. I grew up in Hudson county NJ just across the river from Manhatten and you just accept it as part of life. Steet cleaning tix and parking kisses the ocasional car door smack and cabbies . | ||

Here we call the bumper bashing parking "A la Parisienne" or Parisian style, I've seen it done many times, both entering & leaving spaces, it never fails to make me laugh. A friend who lives there was getting so fed up about coming out & finding his nice smart mini all scraped up, so I persuaded him to sell it & buy an old short wheelbase Landrover, now he always has enough space around his vehicle. |
