Looking at the Honda CRF230F trailbike, anyone have any opinions or experience with this bike. Im not looking for a all out motocrosser but would like something with good poop and suspension for trail riding with my daughter. I am 44 yrs old, 6 foot tall and 160 lbs and have ridin dirt bikes and four wheelers since I was five. Thanks

Thats a pretty good choice for hitting the trails. You may want something with a bit more power. I have wanted a crf 450 ever since they came out. Either will be lots of fun.

I recommend the SV650. New12R tested, New12R approved.

An excellent beginner/girls' bike. Would prove too small for riders over 130lbs. if any hills or serious top speeds are to be encountered.

I have owned one for 3 years. I have all the BBR mods done to it. It is a great trail bike. Check out 4strokes.com website for write ups and a great forum on the 230. My buddies all have 400's, 450's and in the woods they are fair game!
I'm 40 something too and 5'10", 190+ with gear on. I sold a XR 400 to get the 230, old knees don't like to kick start grumpy 400's!
I think you'll like it. Get one and sell it when the new Buell's come out, I am.

it's a good trail bike. not a motocrosser.

a new 450r or even a 250r "motocross" 4 stroke is not what you want for riding around with your daughter on the trail. High strung, striped ape power, overheating boil over, poor lugging, macho go-fast bikes they are.

maybe an xr400. It's still more bike than a Sunday trail ride needs. It will allow you the delight of hanging right with the afore mentioned macho bikes in all but a moto or dessert race setting. and cheaper, and far far less maintenance.

the cr230 is a inexpensive bike. no high dollar parts. no "flash". but it should chug along forever end ever.

I have currently a xr400, crf230, gasgas 280, dr100, xb9, X1

I will second that xr 400. I forgot about that bike. Great for riding to the trails.

I had a CRF230F for a couple years. I'm 42, 5'9" and 180lbs. It did me fine, maybe a little tall for my shorter inseam, so you will love it for what you want. It's air cooled and light, easy to flick and as long as you keep it revved and in a low enough gear for challenging stuff, it'll get you through anything, even light jumping. It is eventually limited by it's non-inverted shocks. I went to a dual sport KLX250S cause I needed a little streetability and more suspension, but it's been modded enough to be fairly motocross. Get the 230F.

The 230F is really a lot heavier than it ought to be, and anything that SLOW really should have a kickstarter. Keep your eye out for a decent, non-flogged XR250 or XR400. both of those are far superior trail motorcycles, closest mechanical device to a mountain goat you will find. the XR250 is really tough, will run for many HOURS on 2 gallons of cheep gas, and will take you almost anyplace you could possibly get a wheeled vehicle.
