folks, now would be a good time to pray extra hard for Matt and his family: 4-13-07 We will not be participating in the Kentwood Relay For Life. The reason being that our priorities have changed dramatically and we do not have time to plan etc. I spend all day with Matt as he has physically gone down fast. So I help him with his hygiene, getting dressed, feeding him (he is back on steroids) and helping him with anything else he wants/needs to do. We are all signed up with Hospice. They have been wonderful. They are going to begin coming in for an hour or so each afternoon. This past weekend, Matt met for a moment with each of his brothers (one on one) and began giving away all of his most prized personal possessions. For starters, he gave Scotty all of his tools, and his letter and signed photo from Arnold Schwartzenager, he signed over his hotrods to Timmy, Danny is getting a his complete NASCAR collection as well as his extensive baseball card collections and his guitar. Very thoughtful to do this now, as opposed to later at the reading of the will. He continues to amaze and inspire me. I will be sending out a full update first part of next week! Thanks for the prayers and notes. We really appreciate them :-) Mitch if you'd care to take a moment and express to Matt and his family what an inspiration Matt's strength and courage has been to you, they can be reached at gr_wares at hotmail dot com Matt & Family, you're in our thoughts and prayers. Thanks for all of the prayers. Matt has been set up with a hospice service in Grand Rapids, I spoke with him a bit tonight and he's digging the place the the care he is receiving. When I talked to him, his house was chocked full of visitors; it sounded like he was having a party in there! I bet he has hot nurses too, that's the only way Matt would roll. It has been a tough day for me, but seeing what you all have written and feeling all of the prayers and thoughts for Matt somehow makes it all ok. Life, at times, just does not make sense. It truly doesn't. God has a plan for us all, and we don't understand it until it all pans out. Thanks to you all for your prayers and thoughts, I know it means a lot to the Wares. Matt, Love you brother. Alex |

Our thoughts are with Matt and his family, but also with you, Alex. Truly, life doesn't always make sense - but things like this certainly put the ordinary ups and downs of daily life in perspective. Dino |

Ah, the twin's. If they only knew what adventure's lay ahead of them when I first found them sitting in that display case, what seems like so long ago. That is one the coolest photo's. The smiles on both Matt and Alex's face say's it all! FRIENDSHIP! Hey Matt (I hope someone will relay this to you).... Thanks for the inspiration you have given us. You have taught me, no mater what life throw's at you, you can still smile and make the best of it (the gods know I know that all too well). Life has a strange way of working, even in its darkest moment's there is a silver lining to be found. May your day's be filled with family, friend's and lots of love. Jim |

Matt, You and my friend Tomy have been an inspiration for me. After my brain surgery in 2005 , you gave me a path to follow, to stay strong and keep the faith. I had hit a bit of severe depression for a few months. Your happiness and strength in the face of such odds helped me pick myself up by the bootstraps and get my self out of the gutter. As you know Alex is the definition of a true friend. It's a bond that will never die. He taught me to enjoy the simple things, it usually adds up to a smile, then a good laugh. Alex next time you are feeling down, get the LP out and crank it on, you know which one. We are the True Believers. Wow Jerry, I did not know you had a copy of the newspaper article! My mom, a 1981 breast cancer survivor, has that hanging at the end of the hall on the way back to the bedrooms since the day she cut it out of the paper. You are correct, Alex is a one of a kind, been friends for the past 16 years. Remind me to tell you about his first attempt to ride a bike... Thanks keeping us informed. Brian |

Wow Jerry, I did not know you had a copy of the newspaper article! hi Brian i lifted that pic from one of Alex's "Ride Across North America" threads, just trying to keep the memories and the dream alive. glad you are doing well, and props to your Mom, too. please give her a hug for us! if Alex's first ride was anything like mine (young pup, knew how to make the bike "go fast," but forgot how to make the bike "slow fast," and doing my best Fred Flintstone had little effect...) it should be a great story. we're pulling for you Matt, and for the Ware Family! Alex asked if i'd e-mail him the full res version of the pix i took during our visit with Matt in Grand Rapids, Michigan last September, and i thought i'd hang a few of them here, hopefully for your enjoyment, and as a gentle reminder that Matt is literally fighting for his life as we speak. keep him in your thoughts and prayers, folks, Matt and his family, too. they've been thru stuff that NO one should have to endure. keep Alex high in your thoughts, too. true friends are good to have, and truly heartbreaking to lose. the pic above is the ceremonial clinking of the beer, shortly after our arrival. that's Matt in the pic, and you can count four bottles, one for Matt ("near" beer for Matt, truth be told), and one each for Alex, Gentleman Jim Attebery, and your humble scribe. mmmmmmmm, beer! this, IMO, is one of the greatest photos i've ever taken, and means the world to me. it's Matt and Alex, with about as much "feel good" on display as is humanly possible, proudly displaying the Alien Twins (guitar picks!) in honor of my dear friends Jim and Shel Corso back in Portland, Oregon, who got to go along on this ride, in a fashion, via photo ops along the way with the Twins posing in the photos for posterity. i am SO glad we went to Michigan on this trip, and even gladder to have had the good fortune to catch such a grand moment in time. Mitch and Lori are good folks, as good as they come. anyone who has followed Matt's saga for the past several years via Mitch's e-mail updates here on BADWEB knows that this is a strong, tight, loving family. as you read these words, know that not only is Matt fighting for his life and his dignity, his parents are, too. please, God bless them all.
