Let me say the buell saddle bag leave me less than inspired. The seem small and expensive for what they are.... What has everyone bought? I bought the Venturi system from Al and would like to add some saddlebags.

I have those Buell H/B bags and I'm very happy with them. I have done three day trips with the wife and had enough room for all that we needed. We got where we were going and popped them off using them as luggage.

I broke one latch, fixed under warranty. I've had them almost a year, 14000 miles, used nearly daily and even tipped over onto the left one, no leaks yet!

There may be cheaper ones, there maybe bigger and better ones, but overall I'm happy with mine.

I use Coretech Sport Saddlebags and Sport tail bag. The tail bag is expandable and HUGE. I ride an Ss and when I use the bags, I reinstall the passenger pegs. I have a ton of pictures of my bike with the bags attached but I can't post them. The message says there to big and I don't know how to make them smaller.

RKA-Luggage.com

small family owned company -- riders design great stuff for other riders -- they also, in this case, provide some of the best customer service know to upright human kind

next pcik would be ortleib (sp?) from aerostich -- butt-faced ugly, but entirely waterproof

Lost, Yeah, sorry about that. I had the Buell soft bags on my City X. You're right, they only had enough room, expanded, all three of them, with tank bag, for one person for a three day trip. They were not water proof either. But they looked pretty good and were way better than nothing.

Speaking of Ortlieb (bomber mentioned it). Has anyone actually used them?

I first saw them in Tourtech's showroom. they look VERY well made, but I just haven't spoke to anyone who actually has used them.

Etennuly...I have to agree that the buell bags look nice, but are way to small IMHO, I have no intention of running around town with the bags on the bike, I will only put them on for multiday trips, I need enough room to haul camping gear and clothing.

Thanks for all the suggestions....

Lost -- I've had em on my MaDeuce - they aren't really all that huge, but they do hold a lot, and are, er, ehem, not aer-looking ;-}

suggestion -- take the measurements from the site, get a piece of cardboard or similar, cut it to the same size, and hold up to your bike -- that'll give you an idea

btw, I've never seen bags on a (non-Uly) buell that would hold more than a pair of sox and looked good at the same time -- but that's just me

the good news is that when your riding, hauling sox and drawers and the like, you won't be looking at yerself

Saddle bags get your weight low, and that's good. I use saddle bags for the kitchen stuff, and vent. rack for sleeping bag, clothes and tent, expandable tank bag for convenience items.

I run a system I refer to as the 'Klampit Kamp Pack. Beverly Hillbilly for sure, but when I get into camp I have my chair.

I have a good pic I can email someone to post for me, (I'm too dumb to figure it out), a pic of a properly equipped Hayabusa. I call it the 'Hayabagger'.

Snail those are very nice saddle bags.....61 liters.....with my venture pack which is 80 liters total I would have round 150 liters of storage with the tank bag. That should be enough......

Hauling tents and sleeping bags...You haul all of that external to the bags....what do you do for rain protection?????

I have the vent. bag that slips over the vent. sissy bar for tent and sleeping bag. The rack holds a folded tarp and soft cooler.

Chair ties on top of one saddle bag, tent poles on top of the other saddle bag.

REVPAK makes a wide varity of luggage. I use the Saddlebags and when not in use roll up into a 5 x 13 inch roll that would take up very little room in your Ventura pack. I you want a color other than black ask for a color sample. Check them out @ http://www.revpak.com.

I've posted this once before:

Packed Up

Tent, sleeping bag, pillow and mattress pad are all in the big, waterproof duffel across the passenger seat. Clothing and other sundries in the saddlebags, and what's left over in the tank bag. That's my Roadcrafter suit tossed over the saddle. Somewhere in there is my Lightning Long.

Actually, it handled quite well. The secret is to make sure everything is balanced. Plus, bulky as it looks, everything is relatively light weight.

I got my practice as a teenager when I used to take weekend trips on my BICYCLE. Packing a motorcycle is cake (and so much easier to go uphill, too)!

In the latest Harley-Davidson, H.O.G. und Buell Newsletter E-mail I get from Germany there is an article about a Hepco & Becker system for the XB Lightning's. Since I don't know German, I can't give much details. Here are some pics:

Hepco Becker Lightning Bags

Hepco Becker Lightning Bags 3

Hopefully this link will work.

Hepco & Becker system for the XB Lightning's.:
Works out to about $738 for the set-up.
I don't know what shipping would cost.
Nice, but too much money for me.

I'm very happy with the Buell bags and matching trunk bag on my bike.

Lost_in_ohio,

$738 does NOT include shipping.
That's the price of the bags and the brackets to connect them to the bike.
one Euro = $1.355

Looks like an 800 deal. Look nice out of my price range.

The question comes to mind is why are all of these neat bags, mirrors, CF, and toys made in europe??????? No desire or cost too much to make them in the United States??????

Jamie.....Mounted my Ventura system and took my bike up to the local accessory store to see how some bags looked today. Boy does it look overloaded with saddlebags and ventura back system. The guys let me (accompanied) try a couple on my bike. It looked very much like your bike fully loaded.

So with all that stuff on the bike how and the heck do you guys get on it without breaking your neck or looking like a fool. I normally swing my leg over the back....with the saddlebags on and pack system I am not sure I could mount it like that. It sucks getting old.

I put the sidestand down, step on the left footpeg, and swing my right leg up over the top of the luggage to the left of the bike and then step down.

It's no biggie... I have to do the same thing with my K1200LT when I have the backrest installed.

Those Hepco & Becker cases look nice, but for $800 you are in the price range of a set of Zega cases.

I looked into have a set of Zega cases custom mounted to my bike. But it started to get out of hand ($) for how much I would use them. I just wanted something to match my Zero Haliburton travel cases.

Here is a link to tourtech's Uly page. They have some photos of a Uly with Zega cases mounted.
http://tinyurl.com/yrbb6k

I've pretty much decided I am going to order a nice set of Ortlieb saddlebags, and a topcase.
No one here seems to have them, so once again I will be the guinea pig

Those HB bags look AWESOME! And if you've ever priced hard luggage systems, they are quite reasonably priced as well. The only problem is that they seem to be made for the regular Lightnings and not the XB12Ss Lightning Long. I find that a bit ironic since the saddle and seating position of the Long model (not to mention the increased fuel capacity and greater range) make the Long model far more conducive to overnight and longer trips than the standard Lightnings...

Another vote here for RKA bags. The set I have is 9 years old with at least 100K miles on them. Look relatively new, and when they get grungy go in the washer and come out great. Attach easily and can be moved from bike to bike with no sweat. A little expensive but great VALUE for the money.

the pelican cases from caribou have the same look and are only 280 for the pair (including shipping) www.cariboucases.com Problem is the mounting brackets are a round bar fab item on your own time and skill. But they are damn near indestructible. Once I move my turn signals, they will be up on my bike. www.motointernational.com is a H&B US distributer. If it is on the H&B site, they can get it. Dont know prices, but they speak EHNGLEESH good bunch too , even if they do ride the Guzi's ;)
