I was planning on doing some long distance riding this summer and was thinking about carrying some spare parts. I was going to buy a belt and carry it since no normal dealer stocks it.

If I buy a spare belt to carry and my belt breaks I then replace it with my spare what are the chances of buell replacing the broken belt under warranty.

Has anyone completed a roadside belt replacement??? Any Suggestions???

They will only replace it if they install it but it depends on your relationship with your dealership. I had them hand me a belt once.
Replacing the belt is an easy, straightforward job that can be done on the roadside as long as the tools are available and the proceedure has been studied. Don't try it without reading the service manual. Unless the belts have changed since '03, I can't imagine how you would carry a spare with you. Handling the belt is (was) tricky.

You can sit on the roadside and snivel about the warranty and BMC till the cows come home (if they aren't already lined up on the other side of the fence watching you).
Or you can carry a spare and some tools and be on your way.
It's YOUR bike, (or maybe co-owned by the bank) and it's YOUR ass out there entertaining the cows.
Warranties are a good thing, but they aren't going to help you push that 7 miles to the next exit.

That's just my opinion, I could be mistaken.

100% if you go to my dealer.

I had one break and put my spare on and there was no problem. Make sure you save the broken one to turn in to them. I've done it twice. They never question me.

Also, my Uly is down right now getting a new rear wheel assy and swing arm under warranty. I had a rear wheel bearing fail and eat some parts while I was out of state three weeks ago. I took the bike to a Yamaha dealer and they scabbed a bearing into the hub with loctite and I rode it 400 miles home. Took it to the dealer and it is now being fixed on Buell's tab. $1000 just in parts.

And get this: The bike has over 35,000 miles on it and has 6 months to go on the warranty!!

Kudos to my dealer, Buell, and their excellent warranty

In lieu of carrying a spare, it would also be helpful to know which HD belt will fit your Buell in a pinch.

I have a Buell belt on my 2001 Sportster right now. I beleive it's for a Uly. I bought the Buell belt because of the reputed 'no scheduled service replacement' and it was $20-$40 cheaper than the HD branded belt. I'll see if I can find a part number from it and post it this evening.

I've been running this for the last 8000+ miles

It looks like Harley Sportster belts will interchange with 2004+ XBR's and XBS's. 128 tooth, with the same pitch. I do not know if they have the same tensile strength, but if I were stranded without the proper Buell part, I'd chance it.

Harley has these belts on every Sportster from 1991 to current, which means there is a good chance nearly any HD dealer should have one handy. Doesn't look like it will help the Uly or SS guys.
