I am also a big SRV fan, amazing artist and his influence will continue to leave it's
mark on rock and blues music for a long time to come.
however, if I had to pick one and only one...I still really enjoy my Oingo Boingo
Danny Elfman's current career composing scores for HUGE hollywood movies began in the
late 70's when he took over his brother's performance art group "The Mystic Knights of
Oingo Boingo" later shortened to Oingo Boingo and just Boingo for the fans.
I saw Boingo Live 4 times and they were one of the very few groups I've seen that were
better live than in the studio.
Probably the most amazing thing when you listen to the music is the fact that Danny
"composed" the bands songs on a keyboard and had to have his lead guitar player transcribe
it for him for many years...He couldn't read sheet music. Pretty wild for someone that
has complex melodies and subtle themes as the trademark of their music.
The band split in the early 90's after 17(?) years together and ended with a farewell

When Texas broke they were the hottest property in town. Industry insiders and celeb's alike couldn't even raise the numbers on the guest list when the played the old Marquee Club on Wardour Street. I of course made the guest list upon arrival, lol. They were great too.
Funny enough, I watched Steve Van Zandt gig at the Marquee too. Met him back stage afterwards. Well, we were big Springsteen fans back then, so couldn't pass up meeting Steve.
So with friends in mind, here's a very close friend of mine. We grew up together and spent years on the road together. Here's my friends US number 1 hit.
Not only the first Elvis cover to chart after Elvis's death, but Roland, British and a black guy too, well that certainly was breaking down barriers that had stood for nigh on 10 years. Elvis songs back then were allegedly untouchable, and as such doomed to failure.

Can't believe no one has mentioned Rush. Over 30 years and still going strong. Their really early stuff was a bit derivative, but they matured and now have a sound all their own, and a cult like following. They are also exceptional musicians in each of their respective disciplines.

The Pogues and FYC and Slade, Jeez Rocket I didn't know you actually had such good musical taste! I like that FYC video for Good Thing with all the scooters cruising around all modified with thousands of mirrors and some with extended forks, that video can lighten up a day. LOVE THE POGUES!!

Glad you liked that one.
I disliked this song for years. I remember as a teenager my mum playing this song for what seemed like forever, and it drove me mad. Today I recognise it as one of the all time true classics, yet oddly enough even though most would probably agree with such sentiment, it's not that often played anywhere unlike most classics that have been played to death.
Especially for Rockets Mum
