For those of you that have one or the other, or both..... Whats the difference in these? One can one do that the other one cant? I found alot of info on ABATE and its probably the one im going to go with since i will save $25 on a basic riders course for my wife to take!
The link on HD web site about HOG doesnt tell me alot execpt its just all about Harleys!
Plus ABATE is $45 for a couple a year and HOG is $45 per person a year.

So, im just wondering what the advantage and disadvantage of these too!!

I belong to both. HOG is about riding. Everything is geared toward family type events. With your HOG membership you also get road side assistance, magazines, patches, pins.....on and on and on.... One of the cool things about HOG is they have a safe rider program. If you take a Riders Edge class or MSF Basic rider coarse, they will give you a coupon for up to $50 to spend at your local Dealer.

ABATE is all about motorcycle rights. The money you send with them helps to fund watch dogs in DC. They keep a eye on new laws that are aimed at taking OUR riding rights away and improving laws that are already on the books. (Right of way is a big one now) ABATE events are a little more "loose" than HOG events. You may see a wet TATA on the loose

If you can, I would join both, and don't forget about the AMA. They are looking out for us too.

The first thing I would do is go to a HOG & ABATE meeting and see whats going on.

Here in New York state ABATE is fighting law makers idiotic ideas like outlawing bikes with seat height under 24 inches. Oh yeah and a helmet law for people that ride rascal scooters and the like...

American made, I grew up in South Bend and went to the Elkhart Area Career Center in high school.

I went to Penn High as well, right across the street from AM General.

Yeah? It's amazing you ever learned to ride a Motorcycle on a twisty road!!

Definitely check out the AMA. Lots of discounts and benefits and they're looking out for riders of all kinds.

Join all three. ABATE = fighting helmet laws and good parties. HOG = Ride to Eat, Eat to Ride(mellow group rides). AMA = racing and fighting for biker's rights (and a great museum).

Join all three like me, and send AMA a few extra bucks for their 'And Justice For All' campaign. It's about strengthening laws and penalties on motorists who kill bikers, bicyclists, or pedestrians by violating their right-of-way.

I think that's one of the most important issues facing all riders. We've all read accounts of someone running over a biker and getting off with a small fine.

The penalties have increased in many states (including here in PA) but are still mostly a joke. There is a lot of work to be done and 'we' need a campaign like MADD had to increase the drunk driving penalties...

OK, off of soapbox now!
