As it says in the title. Just learned that UK price for a clutch cable has now reached £60 ($110). Is that what you guys are expected to pay or is it just the UK market that Buell are trying to kill off? | ||

i just purchased a clutch cable for my 2001 M2 (likely the same part), and it was $44.50 at the dealer - no discounts, before sales tax. | ||

That $44.50 is the old price, Buell recently raised the price again to like $57 and change for tuber clutch cables. XB clutch cables are much cheaper, but are NOT interchangeable. | ||

Gary, in my fifteen years or more of buying stuff from Harley dealers, my experience tells me no matter what the pound dollar rate is, UK dealers are always close to matching the US dollar price with our pound. If you do order anything direct from the US here's my tips. Buy your dollars from Thomas Cook or similar, and send them 'Signed For' from any main Post Office. Before you send cash dollars be sure to ask / tell the seller that's what you want / intend to do, then wrap them subtly in carbon paper. The 'Signed For' service will cost you about £5. In my experience sending cash avoids a lot of red tape or costs when using other methods of payment other than PayPal. Of course, sending cash has to be on a trusting basis and I don't need to tell you how to work that one out. Only the individuals communicating the deal can do that. Before you do any of this be aware that goods of more than £16 will incur customs duty and import tax as well as VAT. Sometimes the customs people don't get involved but that's pure luck. In other words, it can work out more expensive than you think. There are several ways around the customs / import / VAT stuff. When the US sender is declaring the value of the goods they are sending to you they can say the value of something is whatever you would prefer it to be. You could say for example, a set of indicator lights that retail for $100 in the States only cost $30, and that would be close enough not to incur the customs duty etc, so you would ask the sender to state the value at $30. Stating the item is a 'gift' is another way of avoiding extra costs at this end, but I'm unaware of how reliable doing so is. I have heard stories of duty etc been applied, leaving the recipient in the dubious position of arguing the sent item was a gift and then having to prove so in order to get the applied duties returned. All ok if it was a gift that was sent, but not so simple if not. One other method that can work, more so if you are a business owner - or know someone who will let you use their business name and address, is to have the goods sent as 'Not For Resale - Display Items Only'. As such there are no duties or taxes applicable for such goods. Good luck with your endeavours. Let us know how you get on. Rocket | ||

Hey Rocket, was wondering If you still hung around here. You still got the black S-1? You become a primary school teacher since we last spoke? I'm 46 ffs and have been riding for 32 of them  If the shop doesn't have the facility to take plastic then it's a non starter. $57 with post and import duties (If it's not written down) will still be cheaper than the rip off prices over here. You done anything new to the bike then? Test ridden the STT? | ||

Gary, yeah done quite a few odds and sods since I fully rebuilt the motor two summers ago. Got some fancy black paint with holographic rainbow flake in it. Had the seat covered black suede. Joker Machine rear indicators and a billet LED rear light. Just today finished putting on the Oberon new style indicators on the front. Overall she's looking the best she has in recent years! I keep meaning to post some good quality pic's, and I will once the sun comes out, and I get them shot, lol. Stick around. Rocket | ||

Be interested in seeing a recent picture of the bike Rocket. Not done much to mine but it's 10 year sold this year so will probably treat it/me to an M-2/X-1 swingarm (If I can find one), an AST shock and a bit of pipe rerouting. Al, the S-1 and XBS (not R) clutch cables are interchangeable. It takes a little careful routing to fit it without binding, but it works just fine. (Message edited by wyckedflesh on March 20, 2007) | ||

My buddy Wade found aftermarket cables to stock for the Buelligans here in Bradenton/Sarasota at Precision Cycles...the catch was no XB Cables only 2002 and earlier models...if indeed the S model XB and the S1 are inter-changeable that would be good news for many of my friends. We have replaced four this year on six bikes...too many me thinks.. |
