"Now I'm a member of the Buell Riders Adventure Group - or BRAG - courtesy of my purchase last weekend of a new 2007 Buell XB9R."

Umm, I think someone forgot to tell him there is no such thing as "BRAG".

Maybe the dealer didnt tell him that BRAG is dead (Long live the "Owners") I still get questions on it weekly.

What if somebody registered a new "club" called Buell Road Attack Group and all Buell owners joined it?

Heh, my guess is the DEALER doesn't know BRAG got shut down. You'd actually have to keep up with Buell stuff to know that, wouldn't ya?

OK, I guess posting a column is one way to make new friends ... and get the straight story!
For sure my dealer made a big deal about BRAG. He also gave me a neat parts catalogue for Buell, circa 2002, and a 2006 owners manual for my new 2007. He DIDN'T give me the free hat ... I got a postcard on that the day after I bought the bike. Communication doesn't seem to be the company's strong point.
This is a guy who attended the dealer track day and intro at Las Vegas, loves the bikes, but doesn't have space on the showroom floor for Buells because the Harleys sell so well, and for more money.
He has a separate dealership for "metric sportbikes," but can't put the Buells over there, either.
Does any of this sound familiar?
I've been riding and racing exotic bikes for a long time. I'm pumped about this Buell XB9R project.
But it sure doesn't take long to figure out why Buells aren't in every driveway.
Please feel free to send me comments, suggestions, criticisms, etc. I think it's pretty refreshing for a mainstream newspaper like The Detroit News to let me write about something so esoteric as motorcycle roadracing, let alone from a Buell perspective.
It will be interesting to be part of the Buell "family."

Bruce:

Welcome. . . . I've been in the "Buell family" for 20 years and scooted through 44 states on Buells.

The story had, to be sure, some glitches, but the enthusiasm underlying Buell was there.

Welcome to badweb. . . this is an excellent source of information.

Thanks. Unfortunately I'm terrible about checking anything on a regular basis (hence the need for pre-race checklists), so if I don't respond to stuff it's not because I don't care. It's just cuz I'm lost somewhere.
By the way, I looked on the Buell web site (sorry for the misspelling, Erik, that is being fixed), and in the Q&A with the boss, he still mentions BRAG. I'm sure it's a reasonably old interview, and probably someone there will get around to purging references to BRAG as appropriate.
I would like to see the bikes get some appropriate recognition - especially from the people who are supposed to be selling them.
